Let's throw the MR2 garbage to the curb and get the thread back onto EVO's.

Its not a low torque number. Its a high horsepower number for the amount of torque put out. This was at 18psi only remember. The turbo is barely even awake at that boost pressure.

An MR2 without the VE mods done to it would still put out similar peak torque, but only 290whp. The reason why power drops considerably but the torque number would stay the same? because the motor can't continue the flow required to sustain that torque.

Area under the curve is the most important thing to me. I don't really care about peak numbers. I don't know about you. The best way to increase this is by improving the efficiency at which the motor can pump air. And with improved efficiency, you will always see the horsepower start climbing away from the torque levels.

That graph is scaled to speed rather than RPM by the way.

Sorry to stray of track from topic here.
Flat torque curves dont produce good area under the curve. You can be impressed with this powerband if you want. I am telling you there is way better out there. The last time I played at low boost on 20g was on a friends car. We made 350hp/350tq at 19psi on a g-tech. That is about 380/380 dynojet. I will take 380tq that falls to 280 at redline any day of the week and twice on sunday over a setup that onlky makes 280tq and stays there. The header setup and 8cm exhaust housing for the MR2 is very laggy setup. That setup mated with 25g compressor can support 550whp. Its laggy on a 20g. end of discussion for me.

I'm patiently waiting for tomorrows results. I can't imagine being disappointed with ANYTHING that car does. Radials or wagon wheels. It's still a BADBISH.

I guess, DB thinks so too, but was my guess too low for the ET or MPH? My ET is the car's potential with great traction and DB watching from the Grand Stands.
If my MPH is too low, it's because DB's no longer in the Grand Stands (he outweighs Trent). Hope he doesn't read this.

My educated guess. Cold track is not gonna promote good 60ft. He will not beat his ET, but he will get his new MPH best. 9.95 at 152

Track should be pretty good tomorrow. High of around 60 and sunny. As long as track prep is good the numbers DB wants will be there. Depends on who drives the car haha

Went to the track. Track temp was 51 degrees. First run was a 9.91 with a 1.76 sixty foot time, 148.0 mph. Trent had to pedal it in 1st and the car was out of shape when it shifted to 3rd. He said the car is torque steering very hard.

Next run was a 9.79 at 148.1 with a 1.72 sixty foot time, car spun for a long-long time.

Next run I told Trent to leave with his foot on the floor and leave it there until it stopped spinning, we had a casualty from my bright idea. The car spun so hard he had to pedal it, no hope of it hooking up, when he pedaled it the tires hooked and broke the first axle the car has ever broken. Renee, my wife, ran to the shop and grabbed us another stock used axle. Trent and I swapped it into the car. He went out for the next pass, the car spun violently. He let completely off, the car bogged and then rolled back into it. Still ran 10.0 at 146. He got back to the pits, I put the laptop on the car to check the log and I saw some steam. I popped the hood and I'm not sure what happened. Looks like the water pump sprung a leak while we were sitting there..................

Happy that it ran two back to back 148's and a 9.79 on a slippery as hell track. Not happy with a broken axle and now a leak at the water pump.

Going to take it apart tomorrow and see if I can figure out what happened.

The axles were over due. Stock original parts and a lot of passes on them. I'd put in the Stage 5's but don't want the extra weight. If I can get 50+ passes out of stock ones I'll keep buying them and installing them.

Track (NRP) is open two more times. Not sure if I'll bother or not, probably will as I really want to see the car nail this 150 and I am sure it has it in it.

A set of real tires and I am sure after today the car would run 9.30-40's. I just don't want to take off the factory brakes/rotors. I hope over the winter one of these genius tire manufacturers finally realizes the need for a real drag tire in 17" that will fit the EVO/DSM/WRX.

Sorry to disapoint you guys.

Really impressive how successful and reliable you seem to be at the track. My friends and I run in the 11's and are cracking gearbox casings, destroying transfer boxes, etc...

There is definitely an art I think to driving an evo so you don't break anything at the track.

9.30s-9.40s? hmmm, seems I've heard that somewhere....I agree the car probably has it in it. This proves that the torque has considerable influence on how the car launches. I'm sure that Trent could feel the power increase, just needed to be able to put it to the ground. Very good results though, considering no traction and pedaling it.

David, I know you don't like the 555R's, but they ARE 17's and lightweight wheels and the will fit your stock brakes. At least they would probably bite better than the straight stock radials. Just sitting in the trailer, Lugs will need to be gathered up either from OKIX's car or somewhere else. I'd sure like to see you make your goal for the year.

dave whats your opinion on running stage 5's just in the rear?? the weight difference isnt that much just changing the rear.

Btw.. congrats on the times using a small t/3 turbo!!!
