Did Mitsu screw up on the clutch
I have over 20,000 miles on my clutch including a HPDE track day, 2 trips to the dragrstip and maybe 50 additional launches. Car DLL Dyno at 330/314. I think I need to start saving for a new clutch.
I am starting this poll for everyone to vote and chime in if you'd like on Mitsubishi's dropping the ball on the clutch in the Evo.
realistically I don't think anyone will make it to 20,000 miles on it.
Please keep the posts in this thread on topic!
This is for the clutch only and maybe they will do something someday when there are like thousands of "You screwed the Pooch" votes.
Please post your miles that you repaced it at when you get there.
Hmm.. I smell a class action lawsuit. Don't get me wrong but 30K for a car that needs a clutch? It is just BS.

if you guys go to sport compact web site they did a Evo VS STI and they clearly said that the stock clutch sucks, its barely rayted to hold the power at stock levels, but not designed to handle hard driving like the evo was designed for, !! right !!
they should of overkilled the clutch a little just to be on the conservative side
the reason why they built the clutch weak was so the clutch would act as a fuse and prevent a person.....who cant drive the car from gernading the drivetrain...but it sucks for us who can drive...
ok i think i just f-ing jinx myself..... at low rms in lower gears the car pulls but i think once the car gets up to higher rpms in the mid gears, the clutch doesnt transfer that much power to the wheels. i remember before if it was at 60 mph at about 4 grand and i hit it, it would push me back and then take off, i let a few people drive it, they think its the clutch being a puss and not wanting to transfer the power/torque... what do u guys think? and what do u think about the clutch masters stage 4, 6 puck with fidanza fly wheel for a 06 mr?
I woukd love to vote twice since ive owned 2 evos now....and 05 EVO RS and now an 06 IX RS i would have been lucky to hit 10-15,000 in the 05 and the 06 ill be lucky to make it to winter. it should be around 5k. i have an exedy twin disk sitting and waiting
Better to revive an old thread than start a new one on the same topic.
Additionally, here's my input:
I've owned 3 Evos and never had a problem with the stock clutch under 350 WHP. My first Evo was a 2003 GSR that had 260 WHP and the stock clutch held fine until the car was totaled at around 25,000 miles. The car was never launched. The second Evo was a 2004 RS that made 280 WHP and the stock clutch was still holding strong at 11,000 miles when I got rid of the car. This car was also never launched. My third Evo is a 2006 SE with 330 WHP. It has 26,000 miles on it with over 10,000 of those being in the 300+ WHP range. I've ran over 30 passes down the quarter mile, each one with a 60 foot time of 1.8 seconds or greater. The car has seen countless 5th gear highway pulls from 3500 RPM to around 5000 - 6000 RPM and the clutch has never shown any signs of slippage.
I've driven AWD manual transmission cars for 15 years, and RWD manual transmission vehicles since I was around 12 years old.
