i'm 23 and didn't start driving til i was almost 18, but i maintain that all the times i launched that car i never smelled burnt clutch. I did launch ALOT though lol. Couldn't help it, my X is the first evo I've had.The new clutch will last longer for sure because the excitement wore off a little when i had to replace the clutch.

Took my stock clutch out at 27k and it had plenty of life left on it. I have ~400whp and autocross during the summer. The stock clutch is perfectly fine if you a competent driver.

mine took a complete $hit at about 65k, the car got stuck in gear and smoke poured out of the hood vent stranding me 10 miles from home =)
i figured 65k on a performance vehicle is not bad lifetime for a clutch.

if it was my honda i would expect it to last 100k like my civic at 120k still going

I think they should have beefed the clutch up but I made it to 28k with the stocker and 5k was with my whole set up below. I just changed the clutch to a twin disc, but the clutch was about done when I pulled it out

I made it to about 60k on stock clutch. between the launches and the power increase it gave out around 60k. Id say not bad for an all wheel drive car with a good amount of power.

The clutch is fine. When the evo can be bumped up by 100 ft/lbs with basic mods, one cannot expect the stock clutch to be bulletproof while launching or driving hard. It is common sense that when you're upgrading everything else in your car to make more power, you're going to need to upgrade the clutch as well, so don't expect your stock clutch to last forever on a modded evo.

I second that. Your car did not come from the factory as a drag car. Don't treat it like one unless you build it up to compensate.

Yeah I dont see how these people don't make it to the 40-60k mile marks. I launched and drove the car alot and it made it to 60k with mods. I think the car and clutch are great.

Clutch going.. Going..gon at 6k

Bought my car in january of this year and at 6000 miles my clutch is not grabing above 2000 rpms. knew from day one of driving off my evo x that this clutch would not last with the torque this car has and the daily driving conditions of NYC. just didnt think it would be this soon.

I am in my 30s and have alot of driving experiance with many diffirent cars and i have a degree in automotive techonology so i know alittle something about cars. my teacher was a lexus technition of 10 yrs and a against his advise i still bought a mitsubishi just for the pure love of the evo.

With that being said i took to my evo back to the mitsubishi dealership where i bought it from in "NYC". spoke to a service mngr and got shot down with.." warrenty does not cover clutch" i responded with the threat of legal action and i got " if you authorise a break down of your transfercase for in spection and if nothin is found you will have to pay $595 for the break down and the price of the clutch..bull#$%..then i thought why dont i just upgrade..even if i get it under warrenty im still getting an inferior inadequate clutch.

I agree that a class action law is in order.

I'm slightly confuzed, what is the TC going to tell you about the clutch?
Either way, the second you drove off the lot and you found this you should of turned around..... in addition, stop and go constant traffic of course is harsh on your clutch (especially every 5 seconds if you have to ride the clutch to go), no offense, but having a degree in automotive anything does not give you talent (I'm sure you are perfectly good driver though), I would say the same even if you were a clutch engineer.

In addition, only because your clutch did not last, does not mean that the OEM application is inadequate, you have no idea what happened to that clutch before you purchased the car.
For example, part quality issue, or.... the specific tests done at the factory. In my experience almost every factory has a suspension spec adjustment and a chassis dyno test (this is not a power pull), brake test, engine test etc etc.... my point is you'll be surprised sometimes how hard those brand new 0miles vehicles may be driven....even after the cars are usually also tested on an external drive before they are stuck in a lot to be shipped........

This leads me to my final point, sometimes you get a bad clutch, you should discuss this with Mits Motors North America, NOT your stupid service manager because he knows dick, and hes probably a dick anyways (sounds like it).
Any serious warranty issue should be discussed directly with corp. MMNA.
My TC blew at 26k, (99% highway miles, 100% stock) I contacted my local mits service dept., they took my info and than noted to me that I did not have a power train warranty because I was not the first owner. I was pissed, but obviously (ignorantly) took their word for it because they should know better than I, they are the dealership service, and they have my info.....

Well turns out, I replaced the TC on my own dime, went back to the dealer (different) for some other warranty crap, and found out that I still have all warranties, regardless of how many ppl own the car, my info in the system is still valid, and there was never a claim submitted for a powertrain warranty...... which means the deuche never even checked, he just told me something that he thought he knew, and he was wrong.... getting even better because of the economy, that dealer does not exist anymore, so there is no way to prove my horrible experience and the bull **** I was told by a mits. dealer. So I am ****ed right in my *** by a retarded mistake by the dealer......I'm currently opening an investigation/complaint with MMNA.
