Changing stock 9 turbo to 9.8 hotside

I did some searching and didn't find anything on this.
Has anyone thought of swapping the 10.5 hotside on the stock 9 turbo to a 9.8 to get faster spool?

I know you loose HP. But for people that want to make more torque this might be an idea.

I thought the stock IX turbo with the same modification as VIII turbo whether if it's a 9.8 or 10.5 hot side, the IX Turbo makes more torque.

Even the 10.5 makes more torque then the 9.8

I really do not see the point of changing the IX turbo hot side. I think you'll lose more then just HP.

What gives you this idea that it'll work?

Has anyone tried this?

I don't see why he would get flamed just for TRYING something new. If everybody thought the same way and did the same thing day after day there would be no new innovations.

Give it a shot and post up results. Could be good could be bad. I don't think there will be a positive benefit but worth a shot none the less.

From ForcedPerformance...

Customers who desire quicker spool up and don't plan on running boost higher than 22psi can benefit from selecting the 9.8cm2 housing. The penalty for running the 9.8cm2 housing is much less obvious when coupled with the larger 11 blade turbine wheel and the increase in back pressure from the smaller housing is negligible. To this end we are trying to obtain the very rare 9.0cm2 housing to gain even better bottom end power and response

I know obviously you don't see much difference with the FP Green because of the upgraded turbine blades.

Well I know that with the smaller hot side you'll get quicker turbo spool up, but you said that you're looking for an increase in torque.

I can see quicker turbo spool, but not an increase in Torque.

Quicker spool - better use of volumetric efficiency of the engine in 3k-4k rpm range - therefore more torque is possible.

The difference in spool is so ridiculously negligible that its completely not worth losing the 10whp+ from the 10.5 hotside. Thats why no one tries it, because its retarded.
