6 spd. Tranny Tech...Gurus Look
Ok Guys, this 6 spd has me bugged. Can someone please tell me why we HAVE to use a 75/85 oil in this tranny? Seems very other company uses 75/90 which everyone and their Mom makes, but NO We HAVE to use 75/85 or the whole frickin tranny will explode according to Mitsubishi. Now, how is it that a tranny with a rep of overheating cannot use, simply just a thicker weight oil? Example. My wifes Titan truck. In 2004 They had an issure over the rear difs overheating, so they (nissan) as a TSB replaced the 75/90 oil with a 75/140 synthetic, and put an alluminum housing on instead of steal. BAM problem solved. So how is it, with one of the best damn cars made on the fricken planet HAS to use this special Mitsubishi Gear Oil or the whole frickin tranny falls apart. Can someone explain that to me? Now, part 2. If overheating indeed kills these 6 speeds on the track, and Mitsubishi did track test this car in Germany on the Nurenburg Ring, plus the Mitsu Track, how is it, that a company that sweated every little detail on this car down to the exact Piston calibration for the struts oversea an overheated transmission? Now I know, they beat their test mules WAY harder than we Americans beat our cars, hell some of us don't even do that...Is it just that us, being Americans just don't know how to drive? Or??? I am just so completely lost on this, it just boggles the mind...Anyone with their ten cents please reply, and not only that, Guru's don't get mad if this sounds dumb, but damn, is there a simple fix? This dang car has 4 coolers already, Mits couldnt find room for a Tranny cooler or what??? Thanks for your insight, and just for the record, for the money, penny for penny, centavo this is still the best damn sports car on the planet PERIOD!!!!!
Might want to go down into the motorsports section and read track ****** with MR's. Will most likely answer any question you have on the 6sp. BTW 75w90 is fine to use in the MR 6sp. Amsoil and Motul and Mopar (rebadged syntethic Castrol for the dodge viper) all make oils that meet the requirements. Stay away from Redline, BG, Synchromesh, and some of the other popular ones that work good IN DSM AND EVO 5SP...not the 6sp.
