Transmission and Differential Fluid Change

mad_VIII: I was thinking of going Shockproof as well. I used to use superlight in my Subaru and I could definitely tell the difference in shift smoothness. I was considering using lightweight in the Evo, but after reading this post, I may just go the same route and use the fluids that Shawn suggests.

As far as the rear diff goes, either BG or redline makes a breakin addative for clutch type diffs. I think BG makes the addative and maybee redline has a fluid line that is supposed to help breakin the clutchtype diffs.....

You'll need a good jack and jackstands, however.

Incidentally, the stuff lists at Mitsu for $50 a gallon. Ick.
By the by, do you REALLY know of anybody whose ever had a problem from premature fluid changing really?
And not the "one time at bandcamp" stuff either.

shawn: I haven't heard of any problems. I was just trying to play devil's advocate. So I looked back at RedLine's site and noticed that their diff break in additive is already contained in all their gear oils except 75W90 NS. So in switching over to their products you don't have to worry about not having the "break in" formula or whatever.

Redline is all good.
Subnotes: The spec fluids for the EVO from Redline SMELL really, REALLY freakin' bad. Kind of like rotten garbage. Smell like crap, work great.

Hi all,
Good info here. I've been doing some research as I'm about to do a 30K service in my wife's mostly stock WRX.
The WRX specifies GL5 for the tranny and rear diff (front diff shares with tranny oil). Over on Nasioc, there is a lot of different info, but it seems that NEO oil has an almost universal positive experience besides the cost.
I'm planning on using the NEO RHD in our WRX tranny and rear diff.
I was going to use the same for my EVO when the time comes. It seems that there are different specs for the EVO tranny and the center diff. Some of the issues with the WRX were people putting GL4 spec oil into the tranny (like redline MT-90) when the tranny specifies GL5. Our EVO however does specify GL4 for the tranny.
Hmmmmmm, I've used Redline MT-90 in my Integra and really liked it, and it seems to fit our application. The WRX guys seems to have mostly negative among people who used the Redline 75-90 in their tranny, at least among those who posted. They cited that it was too slippery and caused a lot of grinding when shifting. Anyway, it seems that with the few people that have used redline for the EVO, it's working very well. If I can get rid of the decel noise as well, that would be an added bonus.
Does anyone know what NEO products would fit our requirements? The NEO RHD is GL2-GL6, but I don't know what we should use in the tranny that is GL4 spec equivalent...
On a side note, when I brought my car in to get Lojack installed (500 miles), I spoke to the dealer regarding the decel noise which they acknowledged after a ride-along. I have a case with Mitsu, which will hopefully help me out if I have issues down the line. They drained my tranny fluid and there were no metal shavings, but at least I have fresh fluid, heh. This did not really help with the decel noise, so I hope another fluid, and/or changing the diff fluid may help?
Thoughts?
Sorry for the long *** post! Lots of info swimming around in my head, lol.
Take care,
