no one has GL4 oil for tranny?!?!

i tried searching but the basic idea i came up with is that GL4 is still the standard for the tranny gear oil but i can't get it? I'm doing my first fluid change so i go to the dealership(big one in Nashville) and they don't sell the fluid. They say go to autozone so i do and they don't have any GL4 fluids avail. Only GL5. Autozone calls the dealership and they say GL5 is OK.
Is this new?
All the posts i read have never mentioned GL4 not being avail.

'05 evo by the way.

Trust me i always search and this is my first topic i've started so please help.

redline 75-90 ns works well for most people in the tranny and heavy shockproof works for the tc.

From what i know GL-5 is not to be used in the tranny only GL-4, if you can not find it order it if you have too and keep driving till you can get it. Can use Pennzoil/Synchromesh or Redline MT-90 or the GM stuff is the same as the Pennzoil. if you have to spend more to Order it and have it sent 2 day Are i think it is worth it your Car cost over 30 Grand what is 20 or 30 dollers to 2 Day something in it is only 3 Quarts.

i haven't found any documentation that says:

Syncroshift is made by Pennzoil and is the same as Synchromesh...

Sorry about the confusion, I'm not saying its the same oil, I meant to say that BG synchroshift and Pennzoil synchromesh are the same type of gear oil that promote better synchro performance. BTW the stuff GM sells is Pennzoil just relabeled and more expensive ...

redline mt90 is 75/90 gl4 synthetic and you don't have to change it every 5000 miles like synchrosh|t.

The dealership is wrong. You must use GL4. Some oils, like Motul, meet both GL4 and GL5 specs.

You MUST use GL-4...if you use GL-5 you will destroy your transmission.

I use AMSoil...its actually SAE rated and GL-4

actually, what I was saying was exactly what you didn't mean to say.

I heard somewhere on here that Syncroshift and Syncromesh was the same stuff just relabled again...

so I didn't know if someone can confirm this.

thanks for the replys. I just couldn't beleive no one had gl4 in the nashville area. I didn't want to use the GM stuff and risk getting a the tranny warr. voided.
Even if its a small risk. I just order the Amsoil stuff. heard thats some good shizzle. Not too expensive either.
