Yea the TME is quick (full boost around 2800 or so) but not 2300 or 2400. My SR20 could do that, but it was using a T25. Def. check out the TME turbo, GSC S1 cams, and the basic bolt ons will help, but if your really serious the TME turbo with a stroker will spool like crazy

I dont know how much money you wanna drop , but there is no replacement for cubes so , if you really want to spool that stock turbo quick and will improve above anything else mentioned is to stroke the motor. 2.3 motor with cams setup for low end , and you might come close to what you want.

If not get used to it

I'm surprised no ones mentioned an anti-lag system. Its basically a system that injects fuel directly into the exhaust which keeps the turbines spooled by the force of the explosion. You see them in action in rally cars when they go bang-bang and spit flames. Its very bad for the longetivity of your turbo however.

i was looking at the TME earlier... but the site that i found it one had diddly squat of info about it. It said replaces stock evo IX turbo, for fast spool up. that was about it. I didnt know how fast they ment by saying fast... walking is fast for a turtle...

I hadnt remembered to ask about that until someone brought it up... Is there any other people that have that installed? If so what other mods do they have on also.

I was thinking just simple mods after the turbo swap, of corse a tune and maybe exaust.

Thank you guys a ton, you all have helped me a-helava lot more then other places i've looked.

if you are worried about lag, I would just keep the stock turbo, you can make good power and have good spool up

Anything you can do to reduce flow restrictions anywhere from the air filter to the muffler will reduce lag. I installed a 76mm downpipe with a high flow cat on an otherwise completely stock car, and the car spooled 400rpm sooner on a 3rd gear pull. Noticeable improvement in response also. So if you want reduced lag: low restriction air filter, hard pipe kit from the filter to turbo, turbo all the way to the throttle body (like the XS engineering kit), better flowing IC, ported/extrude honed exhaust manifold, good O2 housing, and turbo back exhaust.

I bought a spare turbo off a member here for short money and had it re-built with the ti RS wheel. I ported, gasket matched and swain tech coated the mani, turbo housing and o2 housing.(10.5 single puck WG)

It was a winter project more for fun than anything but on a 2.5" hks dp and stock exhaust it makes (peak) 315 awt @ 3400RPM on a DD dyno (03' GSR)

I have HKS 264s in it and a conservative tune at 21 PSI. On a 9 with a free flowing exhaust I would expect significant improvement.

The only other thing I can think off is reducing the volume of the charge side, ie. smaller ic (not likely ) or more direct ic pipes, minimal perhaps, but WILL help spool.

Efficiency means how much air a turbo can move before heating up the air so much you start to lose power. for example a stock turbo pushing 30psi is way out of it's eficiency range and can make less power than a big turbo at 10-15 psi, although obviously at the expense of spool. There are a lot of good threads on this by people who actually know what they are talking about, unlike me.

Smaller turbine housing would be the cheapest and easiest. As to the gt28 comments, a gt2871r with a .64 has about the same output as the stock turbo but will spool a lot faster. But it would make you use a t25 manifold and cost a decent amount

to decrease the amount of lag u could try this:
http://www.evo400.co.uk/index.php?ca...6&ProductID=89

expensive to do this BB conversion but will increase spoolup earlier & it would be alot faster. the downside is u cannot run super high boost.

if ur interested in running a plug n play ecu like the MoTeC M800 PnP, u could also run this 4" compressor housing:
http://www.evo400.co.uk/index.php?ca...7&ProductID=42

guys in the UK are getting full boost as early as 2k rpm!!!!

there are cheaper alternatives obviously but these are the 2 most guaranteed ways to reduce lag & increase low end torque. these parts are rally tested bcuz as u know in rally u need the most amount of lowend torque possible.

i also still run the factory airbox which is why i'm making 368tq w/out cams (Mustang Dyno).

u can do alot of things like cams/exhaust/intercooler/intercooler piping/aggressive tune, etc... but u have to check the rules of the sanctioning body ur racing in to determine what is & isn't acceptable in relation to aftermarket parts...

2.6L Slow Boy Racing Block on Stock Turbo. You would have 2Psi at idle.

the cheapest, most effective way to decrease the lag in your car is to find a tuner that really knows how to tune MIVEC. If your car spools like an VIII, find somebody else...

a free-flowing exhaust with aftermarket O2 housing will also help...

of course, if you want to spend the $$$, a stroker (2.3L) or a 4G64 (2.4L) engine would definitely spool it up quicker and provide more low-end torque...
