Are head studs Necessary for cams?
Are head studs Necessary for cams? I just purchased some cams and was wondering if you need head studs? I was told by a buddy of mine that the stock ones are good, unless you want to run on 25lbs or higher. Ill appreciate all the help. Thanks guys!
I think it's a good idea with the valve cover off. It will be added labor down the road if you decide to do it later.
If you ever track your Evo, people have lifted the head at boost pressures close to stock (21-22psi).
Better safe than sorry in my book.

They are a very cheap insurance policy. Besides the installed studs have already been stretched once. I would definitely upgrade if I was adding cams or a turbo.

Basically like everyone wrote, increased boost because it increases compression, and puts more pressure on the studs to keep the head on. Cams in and of themselves don't require 'em
Was that really necessary to post??
It didn't seem too helpful at all considering the OP sounded pretty clear about the fact that the head studs might only be needed when his car sees more than 25psi of boost. And that he was seeking advice if this was a true statement or not.
Seems to be that he did his research, got some good information and was looking for a conclusive answer on whether he might need them.
I might have read it wrong though. Good post.
here my 02 if ur not going to remove the head to do the studs then dont but on the other not you should stick to stock my close friend has a evo ix 500whp 30PSI stock headstuds running like a champ, BUT he only drags the car every now and then few highway pulls, if your going to have a track car then go ahead do the studs
