Shifter very hard to move.

I searched through the threads and could not find any that had any good info on this issue. It started a few days ago when I had trouble getting the shifter to return to neutral. I figured that it was the cold weather. The shifter still will not return to neutral easily (left to right). The shifter itself is hard to move. I have not made any changes to the car. Any suggestions on what to look for and how to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

this continues to happen even after the car is warmed up? try driving 10-15 miles.

do u have the stock shift bushings or is it brass?

It happens even after the car has warmed up and I think that the bushings are stock, but how and where would I check to make sure?

already i am assuming you bought a used evo. do some self research and find out a "how to" on shift bushing in the engine bay. you will know right away if its standard rubber, polyurethane(usually green bushings) or brass.

bump.. I'm having the same problem. Just started a couple days ago. I have the stock bushing. I was thinking of changing the tranny fluid, as soon as the weather gets above freezing.

Always check the basics first, like the spring on the shifter base linkage that returns the shifter to the center postion. Maybe its worn or broken or out of place/alignment

I took the car to my mechanic and he found that it was the brass bushing that leads into the transmission that was seized up. He cleaned the bushing thoroughly, re-oiled it and its now working great!
