the point is:

1) he gained big power everywhere
2) it's a daily driver with no stalling or idle issues on the stock ecu/mas
3) he has a great foundation already in place for the HTA 35R kit he's looking to put on as soon as possible.
4) he will not have to buy cams and pay for labor twice

If you want to see the difference in what it would have been in the s1 and s2 you'd have to go buy them and do your own testing

Lol, We both know this Chris.

I just wanted to add to minimize confusion for others that;

Since there was no direct comparison made between S1 and S2 cams, we shall conclude that both S1 and S2 cams make great power on the stock turbo BUT that it is still inconclusive how the S1 and S2 would compare against one another on a stock turbo car.

With a built motor and headwork I would bet the bank S2's will make more power, but most people that run the stock turbo are on BPU style mods and not internal mods (minus cams obviously)

I've already done my own testing regarding the S1 cams versus stock cams on a stock turbo car. I have no incentive to do back to back testing with S1 and S2 cams because of money and personal time (my own labor installing, dynoing and tuning)

Given a few days i will be able to offer quantified differences between the S1's that were in my car and the S2's that are in my car with the Green (close enough to stock).

Because I have datalogging of both before and after the stock cams and S1's, I can add the S2s to that and we can see a nice trend. Right now the S1s were good for 353/312 on a real dyno (Drift office dynojet) at 21-22psi at 7150rpm (with all my other mods obviously). This same dyno has a 376whp RS running 120.65mph traps for perspective. When the cams are tuned and I am ready to redyno I will set the boost at 21-22psi again and make a pull before going onto normal tuning. This should offer sufficient evidence as to gains/losses over the S1.

Its easy to see from Brads car though, that there is no low end loss only gains as the rpm raise.

I doubt the difference would be significant at low boost on a stockish turbo but you never know.

I like the way your build is going, its almost exactly how im doing mine. When i get back home from korea my car will pretty much have the same mods. GSC S2s and BR valve springs go in early april. Great write up

I have HKS 280's right now and I will be installing HTA35R soon. Will the S2's make more power than HKS 280's? Any idea how much more?

I personally dont have hard #'s, but by the way the s1's and s2's perform I would say its safe to say that the s2's could yield more power than the hks's, but on a 35r I think the gains will be minimal between the two, but the gains might be more on the s2's. This of course is mere speculation.

I don't know of any data comparing the two yet....so purely speculation but I think the S2's would be a little better. The fact that the S2 require upgrade springs and retainers yet the HKS 280's don't says something hehe. Hell I've taken my HKS 280's to 8500 numerouns times with the stock springs/retainers.

Did you ever get those results?

Here's an update with my experience with the S1 vs S2.

When I had the S1 I never really had a clean drag pass on racegas and high boost. The best I managed on straight pumpgas and normal boost (25-26) was 117.2. I have since on pumpgas managed 119.7 flat at the same weight on pump but only running 23.8-24psi.

I switched to the MAFT Pro in the meantime so my normal datalogs ended up being no good since with the Pro you can alter what load it runs in based on MAP signal.

I have since switched things up again and am now running e98. I didnt manage a decent launch at all this last weekend at BOTI (though I did make it to the semi's in S/T) but I was running 121.5 at 24psi. If the track had been holding better and I wasnt coming out of the hole sideways I am sure there was more in it. I normally cut high 1.6's there and the best this weekend was a 1.8 with the average being 2.0.

All in all I still think the S2's are the way to go.
