I was able to run a small diameter pipe from the bumper duct up to the air filter. I think the diameter is around 2.5-3" but I don't know for sure. It is actually one of those air intake ducts that you can buy from autozone. It was a bit tricky and I had to bend the bracket that holds the ACD reservoir back a bit but I managed to make it fit.

It was also a bit tricky to actaully get space in the bumper, the ACD pump sits so close to the bumper that its tuff to angle the duct in a way that it gets enough air. I would up playing with different angles and then using a leaf blower to try and feel which was resulting in more air being blown onto the filter.

Just a quick question - when you did you testing and you show the number of with a box VS. without a box, they are both with the air hose, correct?
Without the box does not include the air hose. It's meant to represent just a filter sitting in engine as most people with intake have no hose.

When you do your next test can you try with the air hose but with no box.

I wonder if the box does anything or if its just the fresh air from the hose.

I didn't read all your posts but here are a few things.
A. Very good job, You make me proud to be an ME.
B. I've done this even w/ the ducting like you've got it and it does help. Your numbers are very close to mine.
C. I would suggest using a knife to make several small holes in the bottom of the ducting so that heavily condensed water can escape. The MAS doesn't like water... ask me how I know (puddles at some tracks are quite deep, you know).
D. I noticed you said you saw a quick spike in temp on pulls. Try to isolate when you see that jump. I'd be willing to bet that it is just at or just after the shift. You are running a DV which dumps (hotter) air back into the intake stream just behind the MAS yes? Some of that pressure wave bounces that air back into the MAS. Believe me on this one. I ran WI with a nozzle just before the turbo inlet for many many track days and when I would use windshield wiper fluid I would see the blue residue all the way up in my MAS and air filter. The diverted "blow off" air is hotter than ambient and is getting back up through the MAS (where I assume you're logging air intake temp).

With that said, your piece looks very nice and I am interested.

For comment D.

I'm taking the air intake temp directly outside the air filter with a thermocouple. I'm not using the MAF temperature sensor. I think you can see the thermocouple in some of the photos. So DV recirc air has nothing to do with what I'm measuring.

I haven't been able to do anymore testing as I got side tracked on other stuff, mostly aero parts. This has taken a back seat to the aero parts because trying to make things work with every intake and IC pipes is not simple. It can be done, at least to a certain degree but it will take lots of iterations and test fitting on lots of cars to make it right. I just don't have the time for it right now.

The airbox works VERY well on my setup though.

Thanks for the update Jared. When do you reckon you'll return to developing the intake bits?

because most aftermarket tuners don't think the open air filter helps until you are beyond around 400 awhp - but this prototype looks great, will be staying tune. . .

Ah, thanks for the response. Yeah I didn't look to see if it was a TC or if you were just using a voltmeter for something.

I got distracted with other stuff like aero parts and then rebuilding my motor for kicks and giggles.

The hard part is getting a size and shape that is universal to most intakes and IC pipes. I designed a 2nd version based off data I got from my prototype, but I never built it. It's a big logistics issue to find people with all the intakes and IC pipes out there and then meet-up and test fit etc. Turns out I just don't have time for that.

PM me if you're really interested and we can evaluated your specific setup.
