You are correct, sir There is no part of our sig. exhaust that is polished with the exception of the tip and the muffler (which Magnaflow does for us). The price of the system is dictated by the components and the man hours of fabrication labor that goes into making each unit. We could probably shave 30-40% of the price by making a few concessions here and there. But instead of doing that, we released on standard exhaust system which we believe is priced favorable to other offerings. Different stroke, I suppose.

Cheers,
Shiv

After owning a mac exhaust for my mustang i just want to note that light exhaust worries me. The reasons being was that there was a huge dent that i'm sure killed performance. My exhaust was probably 25% of the wt of the factory but also 1/4 of the strength towards wear and tear. It also rusted up like crap. Always go for Stainless steel. Too bad tuner are not using ss316?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the vishnu exhaust looks better. Not so much in appearece but in construction and sound. If they produce about the same horsepower why not get the higher quality quieter exhaust for those who has the $$? I guess different market for different people.

The Xede is not that pricey considering it's $895 for a fuel, timing, and boost controller all in one. Less hassle with one unit that controls all in my opinion.

I fell the $ is around the same ball park if your counting timing and boost control added to the S-AFC. I guess the exhaust sets Vishnu pricing a little higher. I feel both of you tuners has pros and cons and directed toward different customer base.

Limey,

The exhaust was not "half baked" as you put it. The system was and still is the highest flowing and lightest weight system out there. Just because we had the car torn apart the day it got to the shop doesn't mean we "rushed" it. I would say we were simply on the ball to get it done.

Also, this entire thing simply started talking about the new turbo kit we are working on and the fact I would like to get an invite to some of these shootouts that are taking place. I never initially mentioned Vishnu, I don't even know them. Shiv called me at the shop and asked if I was referring to him, I told him "yes". We had a 10 minute discussion about why his prices are so much higher than mine and why we thought we were both superior. He then explained to me he wanted to talk to me before he came on this same forum and made comments about me. I told him I would save him the time and make another post saying that 91 octane could slow your times down.

Using V-style band clamps on an exhaust is silly in my opinion. I have been building exhausts for the DSM's for darn near 15 years. The slip fit connectors we use can't be outflowed. The stainless steel band clamps hold the systems tight and in place. Using slip fits keeps the cost down.

I see no reason to use a higher priced more complicated piece on an exhaust if something else has been proven to work just as well. Why add weight, labor and price to an exhaust system when I can offer a superior performing product for ALOT less money?

Yes, we had one hanger problem. Had I driven the car for 2,000 miles I would have found it. Problem is the exhaust still would not have been released. Our car is still under 2,000 miles. Like you pointed out we stood behind the product. We have sold right around 100 exhaust systems for the EVO8 so far. We called each and every customer and posted on our BR forum about this hanger. I offered to pay shipping both ways on any catback pipe so we could add an additional gusset or ship the gusset for the hanger to everyone. The guys must be pretty damn happy with us standing behind our product because all but one person had us just mail it to them. No one complained and were all actually surprising pleased that we called to let them know there could be a problem.

I guess it comes down to what you want. I am not trying to change anyones mind, this can't be done. Bottom line on our exhaust (which isn't even what this entire post started out being about) is this. It is made from 304 stainless steel. Each and every hanger on the system is also made from 304 stainless steel. The entire system is TIG welded with stainless steel. The muffler is a custom built straight through design that is 100% 304 stainless steel. The tip is 4" polished 304 stainless steel. The flange to the turbo is 3/8" thick 304 laser cut stainless steel. The entire system from the turbo to the tip weighs in at only 24 pounds, this is 36 pounds less than the stock system. The exhaust sounds aggressive, not what I would call loud, at WOT. At cruise speed, 45-75 mph the system is hardly noticeable over the road noise and a normal conversation can be had. With all of this in mind the entire system from front to back is only $750.

I would really rather be talking about the turbo kits and wish this hadn't turned into what it has. The exhausts must be speaking for themselves because we can't seem to build them fast enough. That in itself says something to me.

Take care,

Oh yeah. Just so you all do know we sent notice to every large "Import" magazine out there about our products. We did this via e-mail to the address given in the magazines.

Being as I use to be pretty tight with Turbo Magazine when Mike Ferrara worked there I know how this stuff works.

The more people you know in the industry the more coverage you are going to get. This is not a lie or some cover up BS it is fact. Think about the people you are dealing with. You have a bunch of gear heads writing and taking pictures for the mags. When you become friends with them they hook you up, that is the way life works.

Mike Ferrara now owns and runs his own magazine called Drag Sport. Here is the proof. I have been around Mike now for quite sometime. I was one of the founding fathers of IDRC. When Mike started the magazine he asked if I was interested in writing a monthly column on the 4g63. I told him "sure". See, I have a friend in the magazine business that hooked me up. Within the next few issues there is going to be a fairly detailed EVO8 build up project, guess who is lucky enough to do it? Yes, Buschur Racing. This is just one magazine and just technical articles.

Shiv is lucky that he worked in the magazine business and made all these friends and contacts with so many different people. This is what gets him in there so much, that is a fact, nothing wrong with it, more power to him. Magazine articles sell parts and that is what each and every vendor is here trying to do.

I agree - that just makes common sense to me.

Getting back to the turbo kit - what was the reason with going with an internal wastegate setup? Also will you offer an external wastegate option?

anyways, back to the turbo kit talk. With the 500hp level turbo, how is the spool up? Were does it start building boost? Is the turbo a ball bearing turbo ? thanks David for your straight up approach, I as a mechanic can definetely back you up with all the comments you have made. The profit some companies are trying to make are insane, maybe they should build parts for BMW's and Audis-charge them all you want

Do you have this displayed? I would like to come see the kit and discuss future modification possibilities.

David's got the 4G63 down. No doubt. However it all goes down to the basics when it comes to tuning. It is in the best interest of the tuner to know how to gain power from a powerplant through documented scientific facts and real world for a particular application, but one does not need to tear down a motor to get info. All one's got to do is make a few phone calls to those that know. The 4G63 has been around so there are many valuable people in the know. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I am also going to guess that 500 whp will be made on the stock long block.

Let's just take the 500 whp for an example:

1. Fuel management. We are currently working with AEM for a system for the car. There are a few other tuners that are waiting on it too. The basic AEM plus the wide band, 5 bar map and a few sensors needed run about $2200.

2. Fuel pressure regulator. $275, we will release one eventually like the one we have for the DSM's.

3. We haven't checked the flow on the fuel pump but lets assume it needs the best one we offer for in the tank, $450.

4. Fuel injectors. $450.

This brings the total up to $3375.
I doubt $3300 turbo kit will produce 500hp.
To be honest it can only be crap for this amount.
To have 500hp, you will need to spend at least 6g's in engine mods.

Funny, I don't see a turbo anywhere on that list of SUPPORTING MODS! Some of you guys need to take a second and read before you post. With the $2500 turbo kit it makes the whole thing $5875. At least you got that part right.
