I do not have a 4G64, and therefore cannot verify the cam timing correction for the taller 4G64 block. But assuming you can accurately determine the zero point, I would simply advance the intake cam one cam degree from there.

Ok thanks.
4g63 heads with 4g64 block tdc is different on the cam gears setting degree. I have to set both intake and exhaust 3.5 degree to get tdc.

A good tuner can make them idle close to stock.

this depends on the overall package because the combo of cams, turbo, intake and IC piping will sometimes produce some weird pulses in the intake that will mess up the MAF.

For the record, I installed S2 on evo 9 with hks turbo and my own IC piping and IC + ETS steel intake and on MAF it was impossible to get to idle and on small loads it was real bad... fueling was all over the place... even with getting mivec to do -0.6 deg intake cam timing

We then replaced the ETS intake with stock, and then it was quite ok apart from idle itself which was ok when tuned for 1100 RPM and a bit richer AFR but it always had this idle drop from time to time... sometimes almost shutting off..

When we switched the car to SD idle is perfect.. 950 RPM and 14.7 AFR.. and works fine even with a couple of deg of intake cam advance on idle and ETS intake.. ..

Not necessarily, it all depends on combinations. Mine idled fine with a 2.0L and a Evo 9 turbo, and it idles better with a 2.2L and a FP Red, both on MAF. It's just a matter of proper tuning.

Most of the problems came from a metal intake pipe.... silicone or rubber will fix most of the problems.
Having said that, the move to SD was all positive and I will not go back to MAF anytime soon.

Cam shopping

Man so many options
Currently my car is stock block hks 272 full race turbo kit with a Borg Warner s360 83/75. I want bigger cams and was thinking the gsc s2 or kelford but am not sure so I've been reading up a lot. It's still a man car and it made well over 500 at the wheels until the oem clutch gave up. So tuned down we kept it at just over 500 on 109 unleaded and 430-440 on shell 93 pump.
Suggestions please. And who has the best deal on cams and valve springs.

As for the weird idle thing I be been reading. Even the hks does it. It almost dies once in a while. That's with full hard pipes. And it even gets weird when the additional radiator fan goes on.

What problems are you talking about, I've been DD on MAF with a metal intake pipe now for four years with no issues, even with my FP Red build.

this is very setup and model specific.... I have heard of others with e9 having the same problem with "wilder" cams like I did with gsc S2... dunno about the e8....

It must be some weirdness with the 9 then, as I've had S2s for about three years now on both a 2.0L and a 2.2L setup. Or maybe my tuner had some trick up his sleeve

I got my S2's installed with a ported throttle body and a AMS VSR. Idle took a slight hit over the S1's, not bad at all and I'm not even tuned.

Best for the Street are Basically GSC S1's or GSC S2's. Take your pick. S1's for a street car and smaller turbo.
