Hi guys.

I sold the new GSC S3 because of the quality of manufacturing:
- There was no thread for attaching the sensor (had to do it yourself)
- When installing the head and chucking bolts turn them was very difficult (size of the first cervical did not meet the required)
- Appearance of the cast housing is rough enough

Now I bought Tomei 280, is a different matter - they are super!

I just put a gsc s3 on mine. Have no problems what so ever.
If you have such problems, why didnt you contact the dealer and tell them.
Gsc s3 have been running on big turbo cars and works great.

We have done a couple of 2.0L cars with R2s. They focus on a sub 9000rpm powerband though, so the S3 is a better choice for the bigger turbo stuff.

R2 3076 2.0L built My dyno was547whp with a puny .63 housing. Can dig up my results in the 3076 maxed out thread. I've still got a few more changes to make to maximize my setup.

I'll attempt to do a back to back between S2s and R2s next month on a 2.2L, but it may not happen due to time.

S1's are great drop in's. They don't necessarily need a tune, don't need springs or retainers and will wake up your Evo XI for sure. Of course S2's would be better but then you need springs and retainers and then a tune for bang for buck S1's by a mile.

Any benefit of going with an R2 over an S2 cam with a 2.0 and a 35R or smaller turbo?

Regards.

R2 Cams

I am in the process of building my motor with R2 cams. Its a 2.3 stroker.
I put a lot of time into researching the R2 cams and found a few other pages. Make sure you upgrade the springs retainers with the right kit.

An evo 9 gained 44 whp by swapping from an s2 to an r2 cam. I have not found a comparable dyno for an evo 8 though.
Here is the page:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ting-data.html

Here is a video of my car before I bought it. The previous owner made 443 whp using the crower stage 2 cams.

I added quite a few parts to the build:
-GSC R2 cams and 5041 spring KIT (BECAUSE THEY BROKE THE RETAINERS)
-New FP Black turbo with a big 3" vband exhaust side (not sure if that's the right term) (This setup is way bigger than the stock exhaust housing on the side)
-STM 3" SS downpipe
-38 mm waste gate
-AEM cam gears

My question is this: Stm tells me that cam tuning isn't important and wont yield results. I know the cams have to be installed at a specific setting. How would you recommend tuning the cams for power?
Should you advance one and retard the other than the other?
Retard both?
Advance both?
I know there are a lot of combinations so I just figured I would ask for some advice on this.

For starters, these cams cannot deliver their full power benefit with a factory head and its mediocre ports. If you are serious about looking for more power, a CNC ported head is required for best results.

Secondly, a shorter rod/stroke ratio engine like the 2.3 swings the piston faster around TDC, and therefore needs a slightly later intake LC. The R2 cam has a 2 degree later intake LC to compensate for this, as well as more effective duration than an S2, and it's ramp rates are a little quicker. You can tweak the R2s by trying -1/-1 for best power, and maybe -2/-1 if that proves to be going in the right direction, but like the other GSC cams, the R2s are intelligently timed for a solid compromise between street and drag work.
