turbo + nos..a question

Dear All,

My brother has recently bought an Evo7 and he is luving it a lot.

It has the following list of mods:

1. built engine from USA, Carillo Rods and Wiseco Pistons, ACL Race Coated Bearings
2. HKS carbon titanium full exhaust
3. HKS racing suction intake kit
4. HKS OIL COOLER
5. HKS Twin Plate Clutch
6. HKS Turbo Timer
7. Blitz I-COLOR Boost Controller
8. DC Sports Downpipe
9. Volk RAYS GTC Rims 18" with Bridgestone RE-01 tyres
10. Oil Thermostat Valve (HKS) -
11. Water Thermostat Valve (HKS) -
12. ARP Headstuds
13. HKS Headgasket
14. Apexi PowerFC

He obviously want to get more power out of it since its a built motor so he is planning for the folllowing mods but need your advice on a couple of things.

Future Mod List.

1) ETS GT35R Turbo kit with intercooler. Turbo with 2.5" housing and 1.06 A.R
2) Jun 272 Cams + Camgears + Pulley
3) Jun Valve Springs + Retainers
4) Precision 1000cc Injectors
5) Fluidampr Engine Damper
6) Bee R Launch Control
7) Greddy Full Titanium Exhaust
8) Tial Blow-off Valve
9) Nitrous Express Direct Port Multifogger Kit
10) ATS Triple Carbon Clutch

He drags on normal streets and straight line only for 400 meters i.e. quarter mile races.

Please tell me if the above stuff will work for me, is anything missing? should i change any of the above part or brand of stuff?

Also how much boost can I run and be within the safe limits

If i run nos as well, how many shots of nos can i spray and how much boost should i be running when i plan to spray nos.

thanks in advance for your help

kind regards

I do not see any type of engine management listed in the above list.

I highly recommend an Aem Ems for engine management.

Safety depends on the tune and that is related to boost, fuel, timing and since it is a built motor, it "should" hold up if the tune is good.

I do not see the need for nitrous on a 35r even with a 1.06. Antilag+big boost is good enough!

Take a look at David Buschur's daily driven evo that runs 9's on an hta35r as well as many other Buschur built evo's................................

I also see that you are using some Buschur racing parts so you should know what works

i've got a Apexi Power FC running , i forgot to mention that.

i need to run nos to get good quarter mile times and i am not on a drag strip so i don't have that kind of traction here on the street.

Plus am running on pump gas so thats an issue too.

if you see my profile signature you can see the mods to my EVO8. I was running 2.2 bar of boost and race another evo8 which was a stock motor and he was running 50 shot of NOS as he claims. He beat me in a quarter mile, its unbelievable. I have a built motor and a gt35r running 2.2 bar ! he is on stock turbo and runs nos and beats me, its amazing.

I just need to outrun that car in the quarter mile !

Stock turbo is no joke!
But it's strange that be beat your built car like that in full quarter. What point do you shift? are you slipping/spinning?

yeh it is surprising. I was running sort of bald tyres and his launch was better then mine, i mean he got one car lead on the launch and then it kept on increasing to 2 cars. We both hit 4th gear limiters just before the quarter mile, so yeh he was fast, i guess its all in the tune.

i was shifting at 8500 rpm.

So people keeping this race aside, i need to know how to make my car as fast as it can be without blowing the engine hehe

and what sort of tyres should i be looking at to get the best traction ?

Sounds like your next mod needs to be a driving school.

he must have been using a 100 shot of nos or something. Also how many years you been driving/racing your car. With a setup like yours, you should be hanging with him and be even infront of him if you say everything is still stock, also who tuned the car. 2.2 bars of boost, thats over 30psi and on a gt35r something doesnt sound right, your car should be hauling ***. have you ever dynoed the car to see what power your making?.

@importjake: maybe for my brother but not for me. Have been driving an Evo since 3 years now.

I changed the tyres and checked with a stock evo. I launched ahead of him so that solves the mystery of the bad launch.

A friend of mine tunes all the cars, he's got over 10 years of knowledge and this aint his first evo tune for sure.

Anyway i did check the maps and some of the timing was way off, i have retuned it with the help of some guys here on the forums.

Also we don't have a dyno here, actually theres one in the entire country but its in a different city, so no show there.

We tune all cars ourselves using powerfc maps and wideband to stay safe and rich.

Anyway as I said lets stick to the topic at hand and try to make my bro's Evo7 a fast car?
