Oil Temperature gauge replacement
I hate the stock 3-gauge pack that I got with my IX MR.
I have autometer gauges on my a-post and I love them.
Question is... if I buy an autometer oil temperature gauge, can i use the stock sender that the mitsu gauges use? or do I have to install the autometer sender.
I want to just yank out the 3-stock gauges and replace them with autometer equivalent gauges but use the stock signal for the oil temperature and voltage one. (I already have an autometer boost gauge T'ed off of my stock gauge hose)

take the gauge out and see how the senders connect to the gauges..
i know the stock gauges in the MR have tabs that a wire with a clip type thing slip onto. not sure how autometer does their stuff

so everyone is saying i can't use the stock sender with an autometer gauge.... this would mean I have to install another sender down by the filter (like i did my oil pressure sender) - is it a bltch to fit them both down there by the filter?
I dont have the pressure sensor, but i have seen it done there with both, thats where i moved my temp sensor.
From i remember far as room, it shouldnt be bad.
USE TEFLON, it will leak under load.

my stock sensor was two and after market was one.
If yours is two and your new gauge is one, which it should be. your going to hook it up like this:
Its been a while so i might be a lil off, but ur not going to hurt anything if a i am:
On the new gauge. hook up pos terminal to 12v, leave ground open on neg terminal, sensor terminal hook up to white wire from factory sensor, and ground the black wire from factory sensor.
If nothing reads...reverse last step.

The IX MR has a 2-wire sending unit in the drain plug. I had to snipe these wires as the autometer one I bought aftermarket only has 1 wire needed (it grounds through the sensor)
I have not had any problems this far, it works good. I simply used 1 of the 2 existing wires and taped the other one off. The stock sensor and sender have been removed and are now for sale in my FS thread. The only advice i can give is that: Since you need to mount the sensor, if you chose to do it in the drain plug like it is done stock then you will need a new drain plug. 42draftdesigns.com sells one that the autometer screws right into and it is very easy. I would purchase this adapter drain plug if you want to do what I did.
