Do the stock Evo 9 turbos that we send to you for conversion have to be in good working condition? I purchased my stock 9 used from ebay so I am not sure about the condition. The fins aren't damage and there doesn't seem to be a lot of shaft play.

Great question, and the answer is NO. The cores you send in do not necessarily need to be perfect running turbos. We are rebuilding them, replacing the shafts, bearings, wheels, seals etc. You might run into a snag if the turbo has actually "exploded" and the wheels are missing etc, but other than that you get all new insides anyway. If the turbo has exploded it could have ruined the covers and made the turbo not suitable as a core for a RED.

So technically you just need a good condition Comp housing, turbine housing and a center cartridge housing plus the c-clamp and c-clip for the comp housing?

^^^^^I just did the calculations recently on the same question last week.

You will need 1200 cc injectors. I picked FIC 1150s, which are perfectly flow matched from FIC and accompanied by a cc/min flow chart for each injector. Be careful to read the actual capabilities of 1200 cc injectors offered by some other companies -- some are rated at 1200 cc because they use a higher assumed base pressure than your stock base pressure. FICs ratings are based on stock pressure, so they flow rating they give is an "apples to apples" comparison.... Remember you want to max out at about 80% of the injector flow capacity to give your ECU extra "head room" to control the injectors and have them shut once in a while

You will also need a double pumper as well to provide the extra 25-30% fuel volume that E85 requires over gasoline.

Hmm, I've been told I'd be fine with 1000 cc injectors, 1 pump for E85 and FP Red from a very reputable shop in Colorado...

Many people on here just run a single walbro and are fine. Also, i've seen people run under 1000cc injects and be fine as well. I know for a fact, Warrtalon runs 750's and runs E85

Do the calculations yourself with a 60 lb/minute airflow and see what fuel volume you'll need to supply to match that airflow. Personally, I prefer to leave a reasonable amount of "headroom" -- safety margin -- to make sure that the fuel system is up to the task.

Most experts will tell you that you should never plan to run your injectors at more than an 80% duty cycle. Make sure you factor that into your injector sizing, and then remember the stoich for E85 is different...

Not on a Red. Wartalon is running a stock IX turbo, as I recall, which flows about 41 lbs instead of 60... Not only does the Red produce about 50% more airflow, but E85 requires about 25-30% more fuel volume than gasoline...
