Single vs Dual Valve Springs/Valvetrain wear
Single vs Dual Valve Springs/Valvetrain wear
Ive searched and found conflicting points of view on the subject with regards to valvetrain wear.
a few notables (Leaving names out):
"Spring pressure alone doesn't kill parts, spring surge and the consequences kills parts."
"The duals should only be used for full drag cars as they have massive pressures that can beat up the seats and valves in a short amount of time."
"96 & 120psi is definitely going to beat up the Valve Seats.."
"I set up the spring pressure and installed height to be at the high side of a happy medium and also allow for 0.500" lift. There are plenty of people running around with springs at ~100lbs on the seat and no wear problems from other manufacturers,"
I have a set of supertech dual valve springs with a pressure rating of 96psi, and I am thinking of trading them for a set of single springs. I dont know exactly when I will have a completely built motor so high reving (9k +) could be a 1-1/2 years from now. Im sure i will be going with a 30r sized turbo or larger and mildly aggressive cams (HKS 280, S2s, Jun 264). my question is this:
If I install upgraded valve seats during my head work (on a basically bolt-on 8 with cams), will the dual valve springs really beat up my seats that quickly? I just dropped a decent amount of cash and need to figure this out before install.
Im really interested in what the shops and builders have to say about the topic. Id also like to know what set-ups guys running dual springs have.
Thanks,
Andrew

My evo had 36k when i built my motor and the head i put on it was a Ams stage3 head (that was used for 2k miles). As you know the stage3 head from ams has dual supertects! Well when i sold the car it had almost 60k on it and just this weekend i seen the guy with my old car and he has a red on it and no problems what so ever. So if you like to tell us which one has problems it might help out a little?? But i will tell you i do not like the crower springs cause when you rev pass 9k they will break and your car will sound like a suby!

Some reputable vendors have stated .... well look at the damn post
Its good to hear that your set-up has worked out well, keep them coming

Buschur Racings' stage III head comes with dual springs and Dave said: "The springs/retainers we run do not damage the valves." <== referring to the dual valve springs.
I'm sure some of the highest rated spring pressure dual springs will create premature valve damage.
