Everyone running the BF 272 or any other long effective duration cam notices reduced vacuum at idle.

The specs aren't made public, but the data I have from a set tested with dial indicator reveals it to give fairly long effective duration, which like any high rpm grind, will predictably reduce idle vacuum. That being evident, you can rest assured that what you've observed is completely expected.

The cams is not going to carry vacuum levels like stock, typical vacuum at idle on a good tight engine is in the -5/-9 range at best.

Yea mine reads -8. Right now the cars have cold start issues and was looking to see if the cams are giving it an issue. I know bigger cams are not going to start as friendly.

My car always started fine with the bf cams and e85. Its all about getting enough air and fuel on startup.

-8 is good vacuum actually and if you are having cold start issues it certainly is not cams.

Yeah I'm trying to wonder if its getting to much fuel. Trying to compare cams I know specs aren't out for public knowledge. Trying to compare the bf 272 and gsc S2. Any inputs?

shots fired

Back from the dead,

My friend with a 10 second evo has offered me his bf272's countless times over the last six months so he can upgrade to 280's with his third motor/trans build. He has recently blown a hole in his head and the last build was from a shop east of me that will remain unnamed. I may go with S1's if I cannot find good longevity "motor" from the 0 degree bf272 owners...

After reading this it sounds fine to run them at 0 degrees as thats how they were made to be ran. Thats how mine will be ran when i put mine in. S1 and Bf272 are not even in the same Ball Park

I am aware of the S1's being entry level. I still have factory turbo "05 with 10.5hotside" so I think the S1's are a better move.

ghostdriver22, what do you mean longevity from the BF272 cams? We have NEVER had a cam failure, not broken and not worn. That can't be said for many other cam makers.

Thank you for your reply, David. I do not doubt your product. I was referring to the longevity of my motor being that it is an 05 with 160k. I will be using new springs/retainers as advertised on your site and Using AMSoil assembly lube. I will probably have them in by middle of July. I am more concerned with how my valves, pistons, and being my motor has high milage.

Thanks again
