honestly, judging by youre requirements.. I would use a stage 3 Ball bearing 50 trim garrett.

They have consistently outperformed the 3076R on our dyno, time and time again.

could you send me some definitive info on this turbo?

Chad is right about the 3076 many other tuners feel the same way tha for a 500HP turbo (300wkw) the lag isn't really acceptable on a 2L 4 Cyl...

A similar Garrett Stage 3 Hybrid with a T04E 50Trim (49lbs) is capable of 500HP with as much as 500rpm less lag and better transient response as well as better pump gas performance in T3 .63 format...

(In its defence I think the GT3076R is much better suited to a 2.2 Stroker)

.
If I had to do it all over again and was staying 2L stock block and wanted an effecient 270KW atw I would choose the GT3071R in Twin Scroll T3 .78 format, (housing is $295 from ATP)

Its the better 20-25psi Turbo for 3rd world octane levels... you sacrifice about 50HP by not choosing the 76 but you gain in spoolup and response so its a tradeoff...

nb*people will tell you that the 3071R has been made obsolete by the green*
- but I think that its still pretty popular with the SR20 autocross crowd and drifters etc, and is a nice size turbo for a 2L 4CL Turbo none the less...

Hope that helps.

cheers
Sal

Ive heard awesome things about the 35R but this turbo has hardly been tested out in Australia and i only know of 1 guy that has one but is on a 2.3L .
How would the turbo respond on the stock 4G63 ? Are there many guys out there that are using this turbo on the stock internals ? And if there are , how much boost are they running and when does the turbo start to kick in ??

Cheers again

Cheers Sal , thanks mate .

The 3071R it is in TS for sure . What boost and power would be safe to run on the stock internals, note i have 272 cams and headstuds .

Cheers mate

No worries mate!

Depends on the fuel and your tune but I would run it at about 23psi on 98RON with Water Meth Inj...

270KW atw without knock is pretty safe, a twinscroll 3071R won't really push a stock motor beyond its limits of 450-500HP and would be right-sized in terms of not pushing your drivetrain and other components beyond their breaking points...

I think the most I've seen out of a 71 is arround 480HP about 280KW atw...

.

Just order the red from the united states, I am sure shipping won't be $2000!

I'd suggest looking at a ball bearing 50Trim kit personally...3071 would be a nice upgrade too. Those were the two turbos I was looking at before going for an upgraded, 16G housing turbo (CBRD BBK Lite in my case). Both the 50Trim and 3071 make decent power gains and have excellent day to day driveability. I hate lag and love corners so was looking for some 'right-now' power delivery to complement the Evos naturally pointy nature. Personally, if I wanted something that's only fun in a straight line I'd have bought a Supra or Skyline and easily gotten 600+hp for the same money as opposed to putting a huge turbo on a rally car.

Ultimately I just found that the cost/benefit ratios of the 50Trim and 3071 kits simply weren't justifiable against a well-engineered, upgraded, stock housing turbo that just bolts on and makes the same numbers, with better spool, for a fraction of the price though so in the end the choice was simple for me.

Not sure why the Greens and Reds are so expensive in the UK and OZ...we can get them for a pretty fair price here in Dubai and we're as far off the map as anybody (when we can actually get them that is!).

The shipping isnt the killer at the moment its the exchange rate . That turbo by itself over here costs $4000 + fitting and tuning obviously .

theshadow - im interested in keeping it bolt on as it would be much much cheaper and still retain the stock look and i could just port the manifold rather than buy a new one . How can this be done and what size comp wheel and housing did you use to highflow it to similar specs to the 3071R ?

Information on this would be much appreciated , cheers

i recommend looking into twinscroll a bit more BEFORE taking the plunge on the 30R ts! its a great turbo, but its best to understand all your options to make sure you get exactly what you want

if you want more info, pleae email me at geoff@full-race.com and ill email you back dynoplots of all the setups. ive been at iveytune all week testing twinscroll full-race kits on evos great resource

100% agree with you when I evaluated the turbo options for a stock block 2L pump gas EVO with minimum lag over stock turbo the 50Trim and 3071 were top of my list also...

But the stock frame turbo's with bigger wheels like the FP Green or CBRD BBK with all the bolton's did make more sense to me... especially after reading the results of the members that went that route. Did make more sense from a Cost vs. HP perspective also...

ps. I see that Garette will be offering A bolt-on, stock-looking ball-bearing Garrett GT30R with a twin-scroll turbine housing for the EVO X in GT3071R and GT3076R:

Geof, can you post any data on the GT3071R with TS T3 .78 on a Evo IX?

thanks

Out of curiosity, even at $4500 dollar for the FPRed, wouldn't it be cheaper than a full GT30 or a 35 kit? The FPRed would do everything you asked for and more unless you are after big power gain. I am only asking because I am in the same boat with you searching for a DD turbo that is Reliable and makes enough to hang with the new Skyline. Supersal and I share the same feeling about direct bolt on, clean looks and simple. I will be checking on this post because I am still in a search. After all its a lot of money. I only want to do it once.

Bumping up an old post here.

Like the OP, I am looking to upgrade my turbo within the next couple of months. Garret has since released the GTX series turbos and I am interested in the GTX3071r.

I have done some research and can’t seem to find a great deal of info on the GTX3071r, especially results/dyno chats of the turbo on a stock 4G63 2L bottom end engine with supporting mods.

Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on this turbo?
