BOV Flutter?

Ok so I have an AEM Short Ram intake and since install the BOV is def louder (of course) but when I am at low speed or RPMs and let off the gas there is a flutter. Something to worry about or just normal. From what ive been reading could be a leak somewhere or the BOV is failing?

The Flutter sound is normal....especially under deceleration. Its the Air from the Turbine bouncing off the throttle plate, makes a fluttering sound...only thing I didn't like about my AEM intake is the loss of Torque. I knew that would happen, but I dropped from 340wtq to 330wtq just by installing my intake, but I needed higher flow for the cams I chose, and the futrue turbo upgrade I am planning. Each part added on, has its pros and cons.....that is for sure.

after i installed my injen intake, and with my forge rs bov. it started to make a flutter noise shifting at low rpms. i searched around and i found it could be compressor surge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZUbo...eature=related

if yours sounds like that..your turbo COULD be surging ..im not saying it is.. but its a possiblilty. just watch out. IF it is surging, try adusting your bov all the way soft. thats what i did and it went away ( thats if you can adjust your bov)

compressor surge is a possiblitity, but unlikely if using the stock BOV. Unless its defective? But we can't rule it out. That is for sure.....Good Call.

at low boost u might surge. but u shouldnt worry about it. if u surge at hight boost, than u have problems

The charge air exits the compressor, not the turbine.

I'm sure its a flutter. When you have partial boost, there is not enough pressure to force the bov spring to open, therefore the air hits the throttle plate and bounces off. Enough of this and you can damage your turbo. This why most bov (the good ones)are sold with different springs. My tial has a stiff spring in it and I flutter all the time. I need to change mine as well. My advice is to get a bov with a softer spring that won't leak at high boost.
TIAL!!

I can hear this flutter when I'm boosting maybe less than 5lbs then let off the gas. Very faint sound though.

See my post above. Remember, too soft of a spring can create idle issues.

with am APS BOV i get this and actually tightened it to stop it at low boost. I will definitely loosen it up in about 2 hours.

Hmm good to know, since I still have the stock one it cant be adjusted but it is for sure only at low RPMS and very low boost. So all should be good. Im gonna check that vid on utube AZNDragonV Thx for the link :-D

Ok so after looking into when the fluttering is going on (just to be safe) its only heard when im at 2100 or less RPMS lol so veery low boost. and only if i let off the gas slowly, if i release quick there is no flutter.

Jeffs2006EVOIX - the AEM intake makes you loose 10wtq hmmm interesting, you got a explanation of why?

np. i was under the impression you had an aftermarket bov..

i never had fluttering with my JDM MR DV. But with my forge rs now.. in 5th gear, if i let off the gas slowly on the highway. it flutters.. myabe even surging. gotta talk to my tuner.

its compressor surge...........the "bov" is not "fluttering". The stronger the spring in the valve the more prone it will be to surge because low pressure at low loads it can't open the valve and you get that charge going back into the compressor.

Its no big deal, low compressor surge wont hurt a thing.....I hear it from time to time on my IX w/ stock metal dv.

If you want it to stop put a VIII stock plastic dv in and then don't gripe when it wont hold boost.......
