Evo + Honda = boosty goodness
Evo + Honda = boosty goodness
While I may upset some people by posting this I thought you guys would like to check out my Frankenstein turbo setup. And i know then engine bay is a bit dirty, lol.
Specs -
Bone stock d16y5 honda engine
Evo td0516g 9.8 turbo
Custom stainless sch40 manifold by me
Dual backdoor intercooler
Custom O2 delete, 3" off turbo all the way back
Separate 2.5" dump out soon to be out the bumper
Fully stock everything compatible + AC
Custom modified STI Invidia exhaust, 90 decibels @ 65 mph
Plan to put out about 250whp on the stock block but I have a fully built d16 that I would like to put down about 350-400whp on a 10.5 housing and water/meth.

No numbers yet but hopefully tuning should be done next week
Evo turbos are amazing btw, you guys can keep your HTA's, just send your stockers my way

Thanks for the comments guys
I have been lurking this forum for awhile now and it really is my favorite as far as the quality of knowledge and respect around here. I did post my setup on Honda-tech but the most people had to say was how dirty my engine bay was
And actually I design and prototype turbo manifolds for a living but I can't really say where I work because this was an off-the-clock project and is not related to anything they make. The welder I used was a Miller Syncrowave 200 and everything was backpurged and done right from start to finish. This is only the second manifold I have welded start to finish and I still call myself a beginner welder compared to the people I work with.
And a little background on the project - This is a max fuel economy with max power project. N/A with small aero mods and moderate hypermiling (P&G, EOC, DWL) I was consistently hitting high 50's and started to break into the 60's with a high of 68 mpg for a WHOLE tank. Even right now running super fat open loop untuned and staying out of boost I'm around 40-45 mpg and thats with mutiple trips to 7k rpm because I love the sound of my Tial
Tuned with some tricks I plan to run up to 25:1 AFR's light load cruising and break well into the 70's and hopefully 80's with more aero mods and MPG instrumentation. I have also made my own design Vortex Generators and they were fully Tuft Tested and resulted in a dramatic reduction in flow separation over the back window.
Oh, I am currently looking for a few more evo turbos and parts for upcoming projects.
I need 3 more evo 8 9.8s and that rare 9.0 housing for my current setup. One will find a home on my 64 Vw bus and its fully built 2 liter. The other two will setup shop on a fully built 2.8 type 4 Vw drag car that my room mate is building, QUADSCROLL
And here are some pix, the car currently has a bit of front end damage but its getting fixed pretty soon. And the white powdercoated wheels may look a little ricer but they are factory Enkeis for the model civic I have and weight in @ 11.8 lbs apeice.
Enjoy
