I've only ever used the yellow paper gasket (didn't know about the black and white ones.) Mitsubishi has stated that as long as you install the gaskets with the white circle facing the oil pan face you should be good. If it still leaks, you have a different issue. The oil drain pipe flange is supposed to be machined flat, but if it's bent it will leak. On the turbo side, the white circle should be facing the turbo drain hole.
Taken from another thread:
Very interesting. Kinda figured white on pan wasn't wrong, I just had low success with it. Anyone know why the black gasket exists in the first place? Is it a newer version for newer Evos or something? I don't see it referenced anywhere on parts blowups. So far, still no leaks with black gasket.

This place claims 05/06 EVO's, so sort of makes sense it might be an upgraded part later in EVO8/9 run.
Would also make sense why some use original gasket, as that is what came with their 03/04 (theoretically).
Mine is a very early 03, and am pretty sure it did not have plastic gasket on oil pan stock
Thread here from 12 years ago recommends using it. (post #4), so I guess it is kind of "old" news.
