Help me pick a 2.3L
Hey All!
At the moment, Im thinking about building a 2.3L stroker.
At the same time Ill be upgrading my turbo to either a Evo IX turbo or a 20G/BBK.
Im not overly interested in topend power, Im mainly looking for spoolup and brutal torque for ripping out of corners. I want at least 22~26psi @ 3000rpm.
My current (power) mods to my JDM VIII GSR are as follows;
-Modified 3" JSpeed Twin Dump Pipe & Front Pipe
-Custom 3.5" Metallic Cat Converter
-Custom 3" Stainless Steel Catback Exhaust System
-Gruppe M Carbon Fibre Ram Intake System
-Hypertec Suction Pipe
-Trust M-Spec Intercooler Kit
-Fidanza Adjustable Cam Gears
-Kelford TX272 Cams
-Walbro 550hp Intank Fuel Pump
-HKS EVC 5
-ECU Re-Flash
Im currently making 265whp @ 22psi.
Next I will build my head, port intake & exhaust mani's, MIL.SPEC throttle body and upgrade the turbo. Following that, I will go for a 2.3L stroker.
Regards,
Alex

^ A mean combo. Yes, maybe..
But I think you are missing the point, there is NO WAY Ill be able to get 22 ~ 26psi @ 3000rpm or less with a red + stroker...

Very usable set up and it will pull stupid out of turns and even when you shift absolutely zero lag before the hit again!!! No brainer!!! You could even go with CBRD's BBK light Turbo!!! That thing will spool when you start the car with a 2.3....yikes!!!

If e85 is unavailable...eeek!!! You have to go meth simply for the torque...the difference is night and day!!! I'm not 100% sure...check their website or call them tomorrow...they are awesome guys...Ahhh...Australia....shipping OMG!!! ^ To be perfectly honest.
Quarter mile times dont intrest me, as I track my car and I dislike the strip. I find it alittle boring...
Im mainly after a torquy combo for the track & street as the car is a daily..

With that low boost setting you will be fine with almost anything...even with meth you could run 30PSI and be in the mid 400'sHP wise and torque about equal if not more with meth...probably close to 500ft lbs. Nasty with a 2.3!!! Did I also mention completely safe...you could beat this thing to death...watch your tranny though!!! I would definately get the new perrin intake...sick power...by far the best on the market!!! Call Chad at CBRD...he can send you one!!! I am aware you want a track car...I'm just telling you about their reputation...you have to respect high 8 second full interior daily drivers...BadBISH!!! It's up to you...I'm just telling you what will make you happy!!! Nothing will touch you!!!

I am not much of a fan of the stock 16G hotside on a stroker. So, I´d do either a CBRD BBK(Full), or an FP Green/10.5 with the 2.3L. Thus, I´d nix the stock IX 16G, as well as the BBK-Lite. I see these last two as creating too much exhaust back pressure.
Why the Green? Well, Bryan, at GST was able to get them to spool to 24 PSI by 3400 RPM, on a 2-Liter engine. So, on the long stroke motor you should be able to see 24 PSI by 3100-3200 RPM. That´s with the 10.5 turbine housing. BTW, you should get the turbine housing fully ported in the turbine discharge area(see, StevoEvo for porting services. You can contact him through Bryan at GST).
If not the Green, then the BBK would be an excellent option for your application. The BBK is supposed to spoolup a bit better than the Green and they both flow between 47-49 lbs./min.
Consider building your 2.3 with a higher static compression ratio. 10:1 or higher C.R., should really help wakeup spool and increase power out of slow corners.
