Scheides did some back-to-back testing on the dyno when he converted to SD with the Perrin Evo filter, Perrin Subaru filter, and no air filter and saw zero difference.

Did he make a thread about it? Can't seem to find it.

Do you mean, he went to SD and didn't see a difference or just changing out the filters made not difference?

No thread, just from my personal chats with him. He was just switching filters while already on SD so the only variable was the filter (or lack of).

The 3" Perrin (actually 3.125") is the one used on the "big MAF" STI/WRX intake.

Over-priced and worthless There are too many better, and far cheaper, options available to even make me consider trying anything ARC.

Just kidding

This whole test convince me quite a bit but for very long sessions as in more than 30 min of lapping are you sure the open element filter would do the same?
Maybe just and airshield would do the trick

I will order the MAf adapter and PErrin or Amsoil filter

Run than setup for years, as in the same adapter with a filter but shielded the filter from the engine bay and cut the lower part of my front engine compartement to channel air on the filter in my old talon. Work VERY wll for nine years

The engine bay has very good airflow as long as you retain an undertray (preferably stock, but the Beatrush is nice too). MAF air temps will generally be within 10F of ambient as long as you're moving 30+ MPH.

So -

I received the replacement Perrin air box last night. This was to replace the original which ended up having the components separate and allowing unfiltered air to bypass the air filter.

I went to swap the MAF off the damaged air box and onto the new air box, and discovered it is prone to suffer the same failure as the first. When the MAF snaps into the air box, the corners of the MAF that end up being bolted to the air box have a gap between them and the air box. When you begin to tighten the bolts on each corner of the MAF, you eventually hear a loud *SNAP* or 2, and then you see the ring that surrounds the opening of the MAF on the air box has again separated due to the flexing of the air box back plate that the ring is welded to in 4 spots.

This isn't a case of overtightening, as I only used a 10mm socket to tighten and allowed the bolt head to spin by not using a hex wrench to keep it in place. I don't believe my MAF has an issue, either, as I've had other filters/adapters from other manufacturers bolted to it without incident.

Waiting again to hear from Perrin...

Very odd that you've had the same problem twice in a row but nobody else seems to... Maybe your MAF is warped from previous over-tightening?

CBRD tested other size K&N filters with the same results. Pass...too many better choices available.
