belt squeak?

sorry for makin so many threads, but im new to my evo. its a evo 9 btw. the problem is a sqeaking noise coming from the belts. my freind said the belt is loose/tight (he got a 9 mr). last week i went to a car wash, and a set of steam came through the vent. what is the problem causing the squeak, and what is the solution to it? im takin it to the dealer i bought it from to let them check it out on thursday, but i would like a advanced answer. thanks.

this happened to me. the only way i got it to go away was to replace the belt.

How many miles on the car? The belt is probably worn out...

It can be a few different things, belts worn out and slipping, belt is just sweeky, or one of the components its turning can be going out making it causing resistance and causing the belt to slip. Thats all i know, hope it helps

I have a simular problem, its only done it twice on me and i dont know why, it happens when i'm at a light right after ive got off the freeway, it starts out low then goes to a higher pitch and then goes lower and then away, ahhhhhhh so frustrating, and my belts arent worn out either got them done like 2-3k ago

mine didnt sqeak until i got a new kevlar belt, after i did that it got wet once and started sqeaking on a regular basis. it sqeaks while it warms up and stays sqeaking for a little bit while driving but after a few minutes it will go away. i dont know whats going on and it pisses me off but everything seems to be running ok it just sucks. doesnt do that much for the sound appeal of the evo. kinda embarrassing i guess you could say.

well could be the serpentine belt or the timing belt. hope its not your timing belt lol. i believe its one of your tensioners/pulleys required for the timing belt.

well what is the condition of the belt? There can be oil or coolant on the belt. Also the belt it can be worn, dry, cracking these are some of the problems that it might be sqeaking.
