I'm planning on keeping the stock cat for now, but I'll probably upgrade to a high-flow cat in the future. I'd like a 3" system from the cat back.

And how does the magnaflow compare to the JDM muffler in sound?

The Magnaflow is an optional muffler only. The style of the exhaust, standard or JDM is what makes the difference on how the muffler comes out in the rear.

IF you order a catback only there is no way to NOT put a reducer in the system. There are some other BS dealers claiming they don't use a reducer in the system for their catbacks but they must think you guys are ignorant. They are getting away with it by butt welding a 2.5" flange to the end, well the flange ends up being the reducer. We use a tapered piece of tubing to make the transition from the stock cat to the 3" cat back pipe. This can be changed in the future to go with a full 3" system.

David,

Thanks for your honest and intelligent reply! I think I'd like to get the 3" system w/ Magnaflow for now. I'd like to avoid warranty headaches for now as the car is still only a month old and may need servicing before long. It's nice to know I can upgrade to a high-flow cat and downpipe for a full 3 inch system without having to toss out a perfectly good cat-back system.

That's great. When you order the downpipe and such later make sure to remind us you have our catback. We will have to send you a special offroad/highflow cat that is a little longer.

Something else you might want to consider while you are waiting on your warranty to expire is the 2.5" downpipe and muffler delete we have on sale now. These two are $360 and will eliminate the two worste parts of the EVO exhaust system. Believe it or not the muffler delete pipe with the stock cat is quieter than our 3" catback. The HP gain will be higher with these two parts than with just the 3" catback in your case too.

A custom built 3 inch flange will allow you to bolt a 3 inch pipe up to the back of the factory cat. There are NO reducers in OUR system. The factory cat outlet is smaller then our cat back inlet. This allows you to use a 3 inch system with the factory cat for now, but still have options in the future. I sure hope we are not one of the “BS” dealers to which you were referring.

yes I can confirm this. I'm using TXS's 3in cat back. It's 3in tip to tall at the very least.

I have read this entire thread and searched, but have not found my answer ( or I missed it ) so here goes ....

I want to get the HKS DP and the Hi-power CB, along with a 3" UR high flow cat. ( Yea, I know it's not full 3" )

From what I have read in this thread, am I to assume that both HKS DP and cat back neck down where
they bolt to the stock cat ???

If so, it sounds like getting the 3" cat is pointless...

The HKS downpipe does not neck down. It's 2.76 all the way. Getting a 3in cat is not pointless because it's one less restriction in the exhaust system.

Thanks. Do you ( or anyone else ) know about the flange size on the catback ???
If it's 2 1/2", then this connection to the 3" cat may be a problem.

Also, on catbacks where a flange with a 2 1/2" hole is welded to a 3" pipe, couldn't you just enlarge
the hole with a grinder ??? Or do you also have issues with the bolt holes lining up ???

Bump on my question about the HKS Hi-power catback a few posts back.

My future desired exhaust is HKS DP to UR 3" cat to HKS hi-power catback...
DP to cat, no problem --> 2.75" to 3" ...

Does the catback ( which is claimed 3" ) reduce to 2.5" to bolt to the stock cat ???
Will this become a choke point when I switch to a UR 3" cat ???
