There are a couple reasons it is lighter. Muffler design, the lack of the flanges and the wall thickness of the tubing. There is no reason for super thick tubing on an exhaust. The material being 304 SS will keep it from rotting/rusting. Being in the center of the car keeps it from getting dented and damaged from rocks/debris.

We have our 3" systems out there on literally THOUSANDS of 4g63 powered vehicles. Many of these systems are over 10 years old at this point.

Sometimes when you build parts to perform you have to think outside of what every other company is/has done.

Buschur turbo back

I just installed the 3" turbo back exhaust from Buschur. I got the high flow Cat and Magnaflow muffler. I'm very happy with it. It installed very easily, and it cleared the tie bars without a problem. There is a very noticeable performance increase. It pulls much harder now, especially in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. The sound is not much louder than stock at low RPMs, but it sounds great when you get on the throttle. My only other mod is the WORKS P2 flash. According to my boost gauge, I gained 2-3 psi of boost. It peaks out at 20-21 psi now. I would definitely recommend the Buschur exhaust.

For those who asked, Espelir sounds really good. It has a nice deep tone and not too much louder than stock. But I've heard it is pretty heavy though, something like 36 LBs for the cat-back alone (someone correct me if I am wrong).

I wanted to get the Buschur cat-back. But I know I will eventually get their downpipe and hi-flow cat as well, so I don't want to spend the extras for the adaptor. So I may end up with Espelir cat-back now and get some brand's downpipe and hi-flow cat in the future. I wish EVO Connection still have the BR cat-back on sale... seems like I missed the sale that David Buschur mentioned back in March

I'm planning on piecing up a turbo back for my EVO8...
Are all the JDM catbacks (JIC, HKS, GReddy, RSR etc.) available that claims 80mm
piping taper down to fit on the factory cat??

Thanks,

The full 3" system is $775. If you want a high flow 3" cat add $150, subtract $50 if you don't want the offroad pipe.

The SCCA legal catback will bolt to the stock cat, no reducers, full 3" all the way through. The 3" downpipe could be made to bolt to the stock cat but we won't do it. Kills the flow necking it down at the cat. Better off just using a 2.5" downpipe, we have them, if you are going to stick with the stock cat.

what a sweet deal David! When its time for exhaust you are on the top of my list for a full 3" with high flow cat and magnaflow muffler.
