Als

Ok, so I need to know the easiest way to incorporate ALS into my Evo 8. Nevermind the whole "you're gonna kill your turbo" or the "not in a street car" or any of that. I want to know what the safest, most plug-and-play-able, switchable, ALS system is and where I can get one. If the Ralliart ECU can be made to do this, great. If I have to get a GEMS ECU, ok. If I need to add plumbing like the FQ-300, fine. Just tell me how I can get it done then I will do it. I will also post pictures of the install and do a detailed write up on the whole thing for you all to see.

There are two main requirements I want for this system.

1. Launch control. I want the system to be activated at the push of a button for launching and turn off once I hit 25 MPH or so and not come back on until I press that button again.

2. Ease of instalation. Something that is able to be plugged in and use the majority of the existing hardware on the USDM Evo.

Consider that this car will have a full 3 inch cat-less exhaust with hard intercooler and intake pipes. It will have the stock exhaust manifold and the stock turbo on it for this project.

Anyone who has any valid recommendations, please chime in. I don't want to be preached at about how detrimental or how pointless this will be on my car. You don't know what my intentions are, and I would like for those coments to be kept to yourself. This is simply to find out how I can do it and then for you all to see it done. If there are any tuner shops/distributors out there who can help, please do.

Me and some other guys have talked about ALS for a while on here now and I am finally at a point where I want to do it. I just need to get smart on what I need for a proper install on the Evo 8.

Thanks,

Josh

I dont know about the parts and mechanicals needed for ALS but I know which ECUs can control ALS. HKS V pro and Motec. But you will be looking at alot of money there. Speak to the tuners at these companies and Iam sure they will know how to setup ALS with launch control all that. Its better than getting hearsay advice on the internet. IMO

I was hoping that the AEM unit would do it. I know Buschur Racing is going to be tuning with the AEM unit in the near future. When they have it available, you better be sure that I will be getting it.

The Autronic SM2 Full Standalone ECU has ALS built in.

You can get it at http://www.boostsolutionsinc.net

Hope this helps.

Did you try the flat-shift product we talked about?
I am guesing not, but if you did what are you thoughts on it.
I am still interested in it since it would be nice for a launch here and there as needed.

Flat shift turned out to be just the same as a stutter box. Once I thought abou thtis more, I decided that I didn't want to be doing any high RPM launches. I have yet to do a 5K launch, and I probably never will. If i ever do drag race it, I will just stage shallow as hell and roll out slow before getting full on the throttle. For hard launches, I think that launch control through anti lag (bringing the vacuum/boost right to 0 PSI at idle) will be more efficient and keep the clutch and drivetrain held together nicely. It will also be a lot easier to control. I remember the good old days of hard launching the GSX's. It was pretty much like this: Rev to 5K, blip, blip, blip, bring clutch out fast as ****, get caught by the G forces, pray you can hold the gas on the floor, scramble to get clutch in and find second gear before bouncing off the rev limiter about 50 times. I just think that using a launch control will be a more effective method, especially if it can be turned on and off at will.

I've been looking in to the Autronic standalone and I sent an email to Boost Solutions today about the thing. Hopefully they email me back soon so that I can get that thing installed. I really like how it appears to be "plug and play" and that it also looks to be available now, versus the AEM unit, which only 2 shops have access to right now, and both are still tuning it for the Evo.

I'll let you know what I decide on.

Josh

Yeah I never figured on holding it up that high. Since it is infinitely adjustable it can be set at 3500 or so or even lower just to get a consistent point to roll off at. **** at 3000 and a smooth release, the boost is going to slam in anyway once the box turns off (ie clutch is released) but of course ALS is some cool **** and I'd like to see that in action so go for it!

I was hoping you order one and wanted to get rid of it.
