Angry Throw-Out Bearing wont Release

I am trying to release my exedy twin clutch from the tob and it will not release. I have done a few other evo clutches with no problem but NOT this one. It is really being a PITA! I got a 3 foot prybar to fit but still will not release.

PS: The reason why i am taking the clutch off is because when i came to a stop the car would barely shift into 1st gear (Really Hard and Notchy) and trouble shifting below 3000rpm. Could the throw out bearing break or something? And if anyone else has had this problem how did you get it to release?

Thanks for your input

You could remove the pressure plate from the assembly by the allen keys if you cant get the TOB clip off. Then pop the tranny off as normal and the pressure plate will be hanging on the shaft with the clip and you can pop it off after. I've had to do this before.

The key to separating the TOB from the pressure plate is to rotate a screwdriver between the two. I have tried to put muscle into it and pry extremely hard with no luck. I found the best solution is to take the widest flathead screw driver as possible and turn it. This will separate them.

Lonnie @Lascuola in my area had a HELL of a time getting mine un-done.. he has done several and he said my car was the most pita.. what we wound up doing was going through the excess hole and undoing all 7 bolts that hold the flywheel to the clutch assembly.. that way when you pop the tranny off.. the flywheel just comes tumbling down and you can try and release the tob from the ground..

i recently changed a clutch on a 2000 eclipse witch has the same style clip and it wouldnt pop off for anything, i ended up having to remove the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel as metioned above by going through the clutch fork opening. the last person that installed the clutch put the clutch disk in backwards ("fatter" part of disk was toward flywheel) and it blew up causing everything to get bent up and jamed so even after getting the tranny out the dang thing still wouldnt release, so i just used a dremel and cut it off.

Same thing happened to me. we had a set of shallow swivel snap-on sockets that were able to get in and seperate the clutch from pressure plate through the shift linkage opening. a real pain in the ***. we replaced a stcok clutch, but didnt release the throw out bearing prior to pulling the tranny off, it locked it on for good.

Yes. If you're unable to get it by twisting the flathead screwdriver, this is your next option. Not hard IMO.

Dont try anything else, just keep working at it, you will get it, also push the tranny back on a litle so its not pulling on it to hard, its possible, I have done it a few times and finally think its a little easier.
