Exclamation Quick Help needed. Surge or Flutter? MBC installed.

Hey guys, ive got an 06 evo ix mr and just installed the hallman rx (in cabin) boost controller.

I've searched and havent found anyone with quite the same problem that who's fixes apply to me.

Everything is hooked up correctly. the T fitting spliced in between the intake manifold and the diverter valve leads to the long end of the boost controller and which then exits the side valve to the waste gate. (turbo and waste gate actuator capped)

when installed the boost controller did properly manipulate the boost levels however it quickly developed a flutter sound. even when letting off the throttle while under moderate vacuum it makes a flutter.

im not too familiar with compressor surge but from what i understand that could be a possibility based on the odd noise it is.

haha i swear it's like the DV is not even working and just sending all the pressure back to the turbo (poor guy)

i pulled it all out again and made sure that it was hooked up correctly and it is. also i checked the DV while it was out and it can be pushed open by hand so i know it's not sealed shut if that was even a possibility.

help?

thanks guys

try routing the feed line of the boost controller from another source, like the nipple in the lower ic pipe instead of splicing it in the dv line

i also tried just routing the manifold straight to the diverter valve for a quick drive to see if the DV was working and it still fluttered.

the boost controller should really only affect the Waste gate actuation once i remove it from that line. im assuming this is an equivalent diagnostic move to your suggestion. thanks any other ideas?

this may not help, its just a personal experience. i had some boost flutter after a bov and mbc install few years back. not sure what ur mods are, but at the time mine were just tbe, air filter, mbc and adjustable dv. flutter occured at peak boost23-25 psi. on my mbc 1 psi usually equals 3-4 clicks...so what i did was back of the mbc by 1-2 click and i stiffened up my bov spring and it solved the flutter...Not sure what ur boost level is or what dv u use but id check there

well it seems to happen at all boost ranges not just high boost... even under vacuum as stated before. thanks for the input though.

still could use some experienced help or solution. haha please! you dont know how hard it is to not drive above 3k rpm.

It might be that you have a wimpy examle of the IX DV on your car. I bought one and it would start to crack open at just 11 PSI. You should be able to take it off and test it with an air hose and a pressure gauge.

Do you have clamps on all of the vac lines? I just installed my Hallman Pro RX this weekend and I put a clamp on every connection: all of the the T-connections, wastegate, etc, even all of the nipples (besides the WG solenoid, that would be pointless). I know they would probably just blow off if they weren't connected tight enough, but maybe some air is seeping out. Just a thought... The only other thing I can think of is the possibility of a cracked vac line. If you used any of the stock lines, they could be leaking. One of the lines I took of my '06 MR looked like it was starting to dry-rot and crack already.

UPdate. problem shooters welcome.

update

well i eventually just put everything back to stock and tossed it over to a recommended mechanic. he says that it's most likely DV flutter and that it's not anything to worry about. if anything we could replace the DV (but i swear it's fine, it was out of the car out of the wind for a solid 2 hours no rain or anything)

naturally i'm cautious because it didn't have any flutter whatsoever before we tried the boost controller install. and i recommended a boost leak test that we'll do in the morning.

if it turns out that there isn't any boost leak, does anybody have any ideas?

i'm starting wonder what we could have done to possibly cause this. heres hoping to simple vacuum line leak to be exposed by the boost leak test.
