Clutch Blew out Tonight

First off, want to say sorry for starting another thread like this, I know there a million of them out there but I have to get this off my chest. So, my car has 17k miles on it, 2006 Evo IX. After a few highway pulls it started slipping and by the end of the night I couldn't drive it. (Hold the Sh*t Please). I was wondering about my options. I want a clutch that can hold more than stock and I don't mind if the pedal is a bit stiffer, I was thinking the ACT Street Clutch with a lightweight flywheel.
This one from EvoMoto
If there is anyone that can suggest something different or if you can give me a good price on this clutch with a flywheel please let me know. I mainly daily drive my car but I would like to take it to the track sometimes.

Also does anyone know a place that could install it for me around Chicago, I don't mind paying a little more as long as its quality work. I need to get this done soon, within a week or two, I need the car for work and I wasn't expecting it to blow so soon.

Thank you. Eryk

Man, i have the exact same story to tell! im around 45K Kilometers and its gone! i can drive it but a lil boost will have it slip like crazy.

What I suggest is you choose a clutch that will hold the power you make. For example, I have basic mods. i.e. Intake, Exhaust, 02 housing, boost @ 24 PSI. Tuned. Now this is where I am confused. I wanna go for the exedy twin but i just think that would be over kill.

Not a big fan of ACT but im still between the two!

Lets see what others have to say.

I went with the spec twin on mine, same pedal as stock and it holds like a ****. Same price as the exedy but its got all the stuff for a push type conversion, no more popping the TOB out.

on a side note, not to give you crap, but my stocker lasted 90k with le bigger turbo :-D

I have been running my ACT for about 30k now still grabs very hard. I purchased the ACT cause I need a clutch badly but moving forward I will be getting a Exedy Twin. I say if you plan on sticking with factory turbo and money is an issue then get the ACT. If money is no factor in your decision factor then get the Exedy.

before you buy a clutch

think
how much will it be to REBUILD IT

and HWO MUCH HP you will be running

Id go spec TWIN or Competition twin, since they are excellent and have cheap rebuilds

I'm on the stock turbo now and i dont plan on getting anything bigger for a while because it feels quick enough for me already. I'll probably keep getting bolt ons and doing what i can for stock turbo upgrades, but if i ever do upgrade it, id like the clutch to still hold the power. Any advise about the Exedy Stage 2? the 3 puck looking one?

I've got that clutch and have tranny issues. Some vendors seem to think my problems may have been caused by the clutch. Can't say for sure. But never heard anyone complain about Exedy. If I have to replace my clutch I'll definitely go Exedy.

Check out Competition clutches. The Stage 3 and 4 are great street clutches yet still hold a lot of power.

I heard that 6 puck's are pretty grippy and a pain to drive daily.

I'm getting ready to hit the order button on a clutch myself. I hadn't heard of the stage 4 competition option. I'm interested. I'm also wondering if the 6 puck is going to be a good city cruiser.

I bought my car used, and not to mention the guy kept double clutching the mother outta it in 2nd! lol! The first thing that i knew was bound to happen was this!

So my question again, if money isnt the factor, should we go for ACT or Exedy TWIN? - I keep asking this because I personally think the TWIN would be over kill with the amount of power we are making. Correct me if I am wrong! I really wanna get the Exedy twin but just worried about it beeing too hard on my tranny! I dont make crazy amounts of power!

a twin is actually easier on the engine and trans (well ok, maybe not easier on the trans, that is really a moot point) due to it not having to have a really stiff pressure plate to clamp and hold well.. you double the surface area of a clutch and you can effectively get twice the holding capacity at the same pressure. No heavier pedal, and a well mannered streetable setup.

Abuse on the transmission is all in the driver. If you beat it like it owes you money, odds are you're gonna break it.
