Evo 9 2.3L Stroker into Evo 8- possible problems?

I am in the process of turning my Evo 8 into an Evo 9 and am wondering what kind of problems I should expect to run into. I bought a brand new evo 9 engine and put a stroker kit on it with new buschur heads and a GT3076R Turbo. I am expecting somewhere around 550-650 hp when all is said and done. My question is whether or not this Evo 9 engine will work with the Evo 8 transmission without any special modifications. Will the stock transmission be able to handle this kind of power?

Any other major incompatibilities I should expect will also be well received! I am already guessing I will need a new wiring harness...

VIII trans will bolt right up. Yes you need the harness and ECU from the IX.

500-650 power level the trans holding up is greatly depending on how you drive it. Not sure if your VIII is an 05 or not but you'll have to decide on a TC if its an 03-04

Not sure how the NON ACD TC will play with the IX ECU. I'm sure it doesn't matter if you go NON ACD though

Wow man you sure commited yourself in deep to wait until now to find out if it would work at all or not. But if you search a bit, I think this conversion has been done in both directions. The ECU immobilizer is going to be the only hurdle, I think.

Ha ha, no kidding huh. I knew the swap would work. Just haven't had time to get down to the details yet...still ordering parts. New engine should be here in a week!

Its on 03. So I will need a new transfer case? What is a non ACD transfer case?

03-04 EVO's did not have ACD Active Center Differential in the states 05-06 EVO's did

Never seen an 05 or a 06 IX with the Tarmac, Snow, and Gravel settings??

I'm almost sure you can just use you TC and all will be fine. I know the ACD's have there own ECU if you will. So I don't think there should be any conflict to the Main ECU.

I'd have to go over the schematic to be sure though. I agree. I wouldn't have jumped into this without doing some homework. The thing that sucks though is Mitsu sell's the IX Longblock in a crate but no VIII

I believe you will need to swop the wire harness to the engine sensors as well since the E9 engine has MIVEC. So it's not really just simply a plug and play.

Thanks. The swap starts full bore on Monday! Parts have been trickling in for the past couple weeks. Can't wait to get started. Hoping it goes well (expecting a few bumps and problems along the way, it wouldn't be racing without them ). Ordered an AEM ecu for the engine. Thanks for the heads up!
