Clutch Problem

hey guys,

i have a problem... we went on a trip last weekend. the location is about 2 hours drive from where i live. all was fine until i notice something in the evo... while driving home at the highway, i noticed that half of the clutch pressure was gone... so when i press on the clutch halfway, nothing happens, then the rest of it going downwards was fine. then i got a mechanic adjust the clutch so we got rid of the halfway no use pressure part. yesterday i drove the evo to work. as i was driving home, i really had to step on the clutch all the way to the floor to be able to shift (sometimes the pedal didnt go back up to its position, i had to depress it up using my foot). it was harder to shift too especially from stop and go traffic. i was able to get home but when i tried driving it last night, i wast even able to put it in gear(1st gear or reverse).

i called a local performance shop. they said it could be two things.

1. slave cylinder
2. clutch needing replacement

hmmm i did some research here on evom, but i will try digging for some more info...

as for our evo, its an 05 5 speed. its got 27xxx clicks soo far. we just got it a month ago so i dont know if the previous owner had replaced to clutch yet or not...

help help help?!

if the cluth isnt slipping when you hit the gas its def. not a worn clutch,
more than likely its something to do with the slave cylinder.

sounds definately like a slave cylinder issue. Have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder? tried to bleed it yet?

hmmm so i followed the master cylinder bleeding from this link:

http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPath=2&tech_id=17

it has step by step and pics guide so it was very helpful.

i used a straw so fluid wont shoot up. i also heard some air coming out of it. now the clutch pressure is back. i also noticed that the brake fluid reservoir wasnt at its max. it was less than half. i think because of this the clutch pumped air into the cylinder (evo guru your welcome to step in from this point)....

i had a mechanic changed engine oil, transmission, diffs, power steering and brake fluids when i got the car about a month ago now. my question is where did that fluid go?

i noticed the links was kind of shiny but no drops in our indoor garage where i always parked the car. im worried that this is a symptom of something that needs to get looked at....

How many miles are on the brake pads??.. With a disc brake setup, when the pads wear, more fluid is required to push the pads out farther as they auto adjust, thus the low level of fluid. Is your brake pedal spongy at all,? as this would indicate air in the system

Btw, the clutch system is in no way linked to the brake master cylinder, so it would not pump air into the brake system..

when i got the evo checked up, there were about 60% left on the brake pads. they feel fine. not spongy at all...

i got the evo checked out today. they found a slow leak in the hard line coming from the cylinder. they repaired it by cutting the hard line and re flaring. i hope this solves my problem because they told me its time for new clutch.

FML.

i dont have the $$$ - bank is still recovering from buying the evo. they quoted 10hours for the job which will be around $700CAD.

Hi guys,

Please see attached link for the video I took earlier. I was rolling 40 mph at round 2k rpm then just floored the throttle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFom72FZbts

Is this my clutch slipping?

Here are some info about my evo:

- 05 evo 8
- 28k miles
- owned it for about 2 months now
- slave cylinder hard line was leaking few weeks ago. the symptom was the clutch pedal was flat on he floor. it was repaired by cutting the hard line and reflaring it. after this, the clutch pressure was back on nice and firm.
- fast forward to this afternoon... i checked it again after taking it out for a short drive. its leaking again but not from the hard line. i think the leak is coming from the slave cylinder itself. but the pedal pressure is about the same, although its a bits sticky

all i need to know if there is a need for a clutch replacement.

i apologize for the crapiness of the video. i took it using my camera phone alone while cruising.

Ouch. Yes, the clutch will need to be replaced badly, especially if it revs that high in 5th.

How is the slave leaking? Is it leaking out of the bleeder hole? That sticky feeling sounds like air is in the system but I'm not 100% sure. When I had to bleed my clutch line, I remember getting that feeling while I was in the middle of bleeding. Make sure the bleeder hole is on tightly and if it is, then you will have to replace the nipple itself or get a whole new slave cylinder.

no, its not leaking from the bleeder hole because its dry.

i think its coming from the slave cylinder as the leak is accumulating from the bottom where the slave and hard line connects.
