Need a new tranny
Upon getting my front differential put back in by Family Mitsubishi in Fishers, IN (great guys btw) - I discovered the deceleration whine is still really evident in first gear, and I now hear a very distinct rattle in second and third. It's time for a new tranny, and I'd prefer to build it up right if possible.
I don't know of any aftermarket "built" tranny's for the Evo, so if you do - speak now or forever hold your etc. etc.
If I can't get a tranny, does anyone know of a good source for STRONG gears / internals?
If I can't go either of those routes, I would be more than happy to buy a low mileage used one or new (/barf) and just save my old one to build up when the parts become available.
Thanks everyone!
Cris

Hi Chris,
sorry about your problems dude.
here is what i found out so far:
RMR sells the olinger gears which are very good and they are direct bolt on. go to www.rmrproducts.com and then go to racing and then parts.
quife has some gear sets that SHOULD bolt on but you might want to give them a call first.
if you have some extra cash you might want to check out Modena dog box which is amazing but might be expensive.
as usuall let me know if you need anything

stay far away from a dog box if you want to maintain any sort of streetability.
Holinger makes some very nice sets (they are an Australian company) - not ure if they doa synchro box though. We have access to these, though there is a wait time.
I'll call Quaife in the AM for you, have to speak with them anyway

Hey Adam.. My tranny may need a rebuild shortly.. Somehow I lost a synchro in 5th, but its not from abuse since its a rare gear to use.. Any thoughts on a local rebuild? It will probably be covered under warranty.. I'm fortunate in that the only modifications are the Exhaust and filter.. there shouldn't be any reason for the dealer to have a cow..
But I'd prefer to upgrade a few items and a new clutch if the price is right I'd rather pay a few dollars and not worry about another stock part failing.
This just happened to be the perfect place to ask because I'm in the same boat..
