need help

Got the car back today and it seems to be acting the same. The gasket at the down pipe was replaced and there wasn't any exhaust leak at the manifold according to the mitsubishi dealership. There is still the misfire in cylinder 4 and the oil leak at the oil pan and turbo return line. MY original problem was what it looks like am loosing boost some where along. The car accelerates perfect until i get to higher boost and then it feels like the turbo spools and am not getting nowhere. It feels like a non turbo car. Would the cylinder misfire (bad spark plug on cylinder 4 ) the oil pan leak and oil leak at the turbo return line have to do would loosing what i think is boost st higher engine rpms. Some one please help this noob . Am checking the oil level at the motor and i don't see any difference in level after i checked it .

running on 3 cylinders would yes. change the plugs + make yourself a boost leak tester: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html - boost leaks will kill the cars performance drastically. Also fix those leaks.. this should be something you can do yourself. vfaq.com and evomoto.com are good sources for tutorials and how to for our cars.

It will whine loud or you will have a trail of black smoke behind your car when boosting.

- You unbolt it from the bottom of the car and and replace the gasket...... use a thin layer of rtv to assure the gasket doesn't move when reinserting the new gasket. Drain the oil first before you drop the oil pan. return line, buy new gaskets and thin layer of rtv as well for turbo side and oil pan side.

I never did a oil pan on a evo but im guessing you need to drop the downpipe as well.

So the rtv is just a sealant not the gasket itself. As far as the turbo goes when i hit the accelerator from a dead stop the turbo seems to boost until a get to higher speed after that i hear the turbo spool but the car lags as if the turbo just quits. When i purchased the car and i test drove it for the first time the turbo would whine loud but no smoke from the back. Now i dont hear that loud whine and the car is slow. Where is the turbo return line located in the engine bay. thanks for the help .

rtv is just a sealant not the gasket. just use a very very thin layer of it around the corners to assure its being seated properly and not moving when assembling pan back on.

the oil pan uses rtv as the gasket....
the turbo return line has 2 gaskets... one between the oil pan and one between the turbo. Also the oil return line bolts have special oringed washers. I have had cars leak like crazy if those washers aren't replaced

as for the running crappy....
It could be a boost leak, or did you buy the car used? It might be tuned for something else and you could have a crap ton of knock up top.....

I would recommend finding a local guy, local reputable shop and get a boost leak test and at least a log....

does cylinder number 4 spark plug look different than the other three?

theres no way in hell the oil pan doesn't use a gasket....... you must be out of your mind. (EDIT: I guess they really don't thats odd - use http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...sket_Maker.htm)

also let me add its smart to put a very thin ( see through) layer of silicone rtv on both the return line gaskets.
I also use a thin layer of rtv on the jpipe / compressor outlet gasket as well.

Take your oil pan off and then take a look..... then post up what you see..... I have taken off 50+ oil pans and I have NEVER seen a gasket AND the service manual has a specific part number a bead diameter for the RTV that goes around the oil pan and seals it against the block!

THE ONLY NON RTV GASKET ON THE OILPAN IS BETWEEN THE OIL PAN AND THE TURBO OIL RETURN LINE.

Ya I just did a google search and seen that myself, I corrected my initial post. I never had to replace the bolts for the turbo return line though... for the feedline (banjo bolts / crush washers - sure) but never just the regular bolts for the return line.

The car had 40,000 miles when i purchased it .Am the second owner. This just happen recently . I have the car for about 4 months an it ran amazing . This is what made me fall in love with the car in the first place. I order the oem plugs online. I lifted the car and seen the leak . It appears that the oil is running out of the turbo return line gasket at the oil pan and running down the oil pan itself . The oil pan dose not have a leak.
