Overheating Issue

My car over heats after driving for 2-3miles. The car seems to be driving fine after driving 2-3 mile and starts to overheat. What can cause this?

waterpump, headgasket failure, thermostat failure, no coolant, bad radiator, radiator fan not turning on.

^ Check all of these. Obviously do the easiest first though... I went through everything except for the headgasket to find out it was my water pump.

Same thing happened to me. Ended up being my thermostat which is an easy replacement. Then again it could be other things to. I'd check the thermostat first.

Same thing would happen to a buddy of mine turned out to be the head studs stretched and air was getting past the head gasket

Just curious - what was wrong with your water pump?

Not sure. At about 60k miles it went out on me. My overheating problem was very sporadic... Sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. Regardless of if I were in traffic or cruising down the interstate.

Check to make sure there's no air in the system and that the fans are turning on. Water pump replacement isn't exactly the easiest... You might as well get a new timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley if your going to be replacing it.
