Thermostat problem?

Hi folks,

I own an Evo TME. I've recently got evoscan running and did a few logs. I noticed that when my aircondition is on i'm logging around 89-91C (192-196F) since the fan is on.. when i turn off my airconditioning and let the radiator fans come on automatically it hits 100-102C (212-216F) before the fans come on... then the fan turns off at 100C (212F)... what could be the problem? I was searching for some diagrams for the thermostat and I've only come across a 1G... I looked at my engine and I only see 2 sensors - one for the temp gauge and one for the coolant temp for the ecu.. which one controls the fan switching? Thanks!!

I tried changing/swapping the fan relays this afternoon and the problem still persists... I checked my manual and it says the HI fan setting turns on at 105C... I don't think i'm getting a low fan? I don't think the ECU coolant temp sensor is faulty... is it the ECU that triggers the fan to work and not a thermoswitch? Sorry.. i meant Evo 6.5 :-)

Thanks guys.

Yeah thanks for the reminder mate. That's why I just run it with the airconditioning on these days and the temps stay in the 91C range. I'm thinking of having the wiring checked too...

Anyway, I'm slightly confused. Does the Evo 6 have a fan control unit? Or does the fan signal come straight from the ecu?

Back when they used at thermo switch stuck in the bottom of the radiator. There was a couple of relays that could give you high or low on one fan or two.

One of my old manuals had the complete wiring diagram. I threw it out the other day.

Just an update, turned out to be an ECU problem with the low setting not turning on. We've then swapped to an Evo 8 ecu and now runs perfectly. Temps around 85-87C. :-)
