Yes i am really should have a built motor to use it properly and safely could you run it on stupid low boost and just have high Tq yup but its not designed for that should be 35-40 psi if you want to get your monies worth out of it and see difference in whp. why get a fp black or 35r for 400-450 when a red will do that with faster spool?? you can get 600whp out a red with right mods of course built block terriorty i can only see you getting a black if you planned on doing high boost building the motor etc soon. not a year or two down the line by then we will have fp blue and black will be old news LOL

Although its not guaranteed a Red can do 450whp, but this all depends on the set-up and boost. The Black is gonna be under less stress at the same power level, as stated before and it would be a great choice for the OP IMO. If you stay on pump gas I wouldnt worry about the motor too much because these engines are pretty stout and the Black wont make crazy torque at 25-28psi anyways.

90 percent of Red produce 100hp more than tq. The Black based off spool and having the larger compressor wheel will produce between another 130-140 more hp than tq. Both these setups being at 30psi.

All Reds in my area.

My car 520hp 406tq (30psi)
Dan 480hp 390tq (30psi)
Eric 538hp 430tq (35psi)

Running a larger turbo for example take my setup... 520hp on a Red 30psi. A Black on my car will have a lot less tq then my Red did at 520hp, probably 25-30lbs less tq at the same horsepower level ... This allows you to make more power while keeping the tq at the same level. So I would be able to have 550HP and keep the tq the same as it was on my red! Do you see where I'm coming from?

below cars are all on 30psi keeping the turbos within their max efficiency range and comparable. These are all real life cars

(Going smaller turbo to larger turbo)

1) My Stock IX 420hp/380tq (40 difference between hp and tq)
2) Friends FP Green 450hp/395tq ( 55 difference between hp and tq)
3) My FP Red 520hp/406tq (114 difference between hp and tq)
4) FP Black 550hp/410tq (140 difference between hp and tq)
5) Aaron's FP 3586 575hp/390 (185 difference between hp and tq)

See how they all are within the same tq numbers give or take 10-20lbs ft? Tq is what will break your motor, more so than HP. All those cars are completely stock motors w/ stock head - minus cams-, w/ stock rod bolts and we drive our cars hard. There are over ten 500hp cars in this area on stock motors and we are all fine. Keep tq low 400 and you will be just fine.

The black should be able to do 550hp on stock motor without a problem I hope this all made sense. If you have a question please ask.

Mikey

Correct. The black will only start to pop motors if you start running them in really high boost where the torque starts to double the horsepower made per psi of boost. That's when the efficiency of the turbo starts to down grade and the tq starts to climb hard. I think the Black would be a great 550hp turbo on stock blocks and spool much better than a 3582 or 3586.

On pump the black will produce more horsepower and less torque than the red on pump. Actually safer on bottom end imo. Then if you ever build your motor the Black will get you 700hp on race gas

Exactly, that's whats great about the Black, great and safe power on pump but if you decide to get crazy, you can have all the power you need

how much slower does the black spool up then the red? 200rpm-300rpm?

i am buying a tomorrow and i'm leaning more towards the black at the moment i just hope that it will be ok for a daily driver on pump.

^ yep that is about right. Some cars may spool 100-200 depending on mods
