Seems like the ACD cycles rapidly, thus causing the rhythmic "hopping" as it locks and unlocks.

After reading the past few pages it seems a 1-way clutch style front diff may be a solution to this. . .

That weird mid-corner throttle bind... gosh I hate it. You can feel yourself losing time as you can't get on the throttle as you'd like...
Maybe this will change somewhat since I just installed my Shep rear diff! I'm at NJMP in a week and will know if it makes a difference. Interestingly, the first minute I drove the car, it sounded like my drivetrain was being tortured (I have all solid mounts) but after that, even on hard throttle figure 8's, very little noise or chatter was noted. I did notice on those figure 8's that the rear felt a bit lighter and the car wasn't pushing and chattering but the real test will be at the track.

Thanks Shep and Dave for all the drivetrain goodies (and Ivey for the installs).

looking forward to hearing your review - as i recall you also have the gruppe-s acd reflash, which also helped you drop some time

Quick question on front diffs - I think this has been asked but does anyone have experience with the KAAZ or Cusco clutch pack style front?? Specifically the 1-way?

Yep - although I suppose I should add a some flavor to my comment... It dropped time on longer courses and adversely impacted me on some shorter, tighter courses. Technical sections of longer courses were generally ok but there are a few turns between Monticello, Tremblant and Watkins Glen where I was forced to take the rain line (rim shot and drag strip) to avoid binding.
I would STILL recommend the ACD flash as in general, I did drop times. As a reminder, this is not a DD though - she's a track car and occasional WW.

I'll be driving Thunderbolt for 5 days over the next 3 weeks and I'm trying to get to at least one other course; so expect some reviews in about a month.

ah gotcha. from what i heard from most people an upgraded rear diff really helps out with that binding in tight corners.

well i took the car for a spin.. and while im sure clicking noises are normal for the diff mine is more of a banging/shaking on low speed in gear turns. doesnt happen when im not pressing gas or in neutral and turning so it's gotta be the diff.

fortunately i'll be at ams tomorrow morning and they're actually the ones who had the cusco shimmed and installed, so hopefully they'll let me know if something's wrong.

if my evo rear diff gurus have any ideas why it is BANGING when i turn, please chime in =]

did you change the fluid?

Mine sounded like a bat rolling around in the trunk with the Non-slip fluid. The diaqueen is super quiet.

no it's only got a thousand miles on it though. im getting it changed tomorrow. it's amsoil severe gear which has friction modifier in it plus i added redline friction modifier.. right now its banging and i can like feel it through the entire car.

switchin to 75w110 severe gear with amsoil friciton modifier http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ada.aspx

now im a little confused by the name of it "slip lock" this is a friction modifier designed to let the diffs slip more right? it does say reduce chatter..

i hope im worrying for nothing but banging through the drivetrain is def not normal, and very annoying when driving aroudn town

Well quit messing around and listen to our advice. go put some stock diaqueen in it.

I too tried several different fluids all of which made sounds loud enough that people in the paddock would come running up to tell us our car sounded broken. ...as if i couldn't hear it sitting inside the car.

I am still confused on why people are not getting that OEM Diaqueen works PERFECTLY In the rear diff... quiet as can be, locks well... not sure what else people expect, or why they fight it so much.

I guess I'm just looking for something that may protect better. I'm at ams now so we'll see what they say

Well I am not aware of anyone that has had issues with a diff build (shep, TRE, cusco, etc) and using straight Diaqueen (no modifiers)...

Wheel invented.... no need to reinvent.

All the Mitsu engineers probably didn't put much thought into longevity/protection, even though they were offering 100,000 mile warranties on the EVO.

Only reason i'm using the NS is because I wanted to try to get the most lock possible to see how it changed the attitude of the car. If you are worried about driveability and protection - you would be foolish to try to redo all the research Mitsu engineers have already done - stick with Diaqueen.
