Rear Diff Options - Power Oversteer Found Here
Well I finally have the Max lock with HD side cover for the Evo and a 4 bolt with Evo III diff for the Talon on order. If I even get a few tenths out of this thing Ill be ecstatic. I'm only about a second off pace from being able to compete PAX with the local national champions so far this year.

Out of curiosity, what level would you put yourself as a driver? I'm just curious if its helping mediocre drivers get to the limit easier or if its actually moving the limits of times capable. Guess Ill find out at the next event, Ill track how I'm placing in PAX.
I sure hope people are joking about the weight. The moment of inertia on this part is practically insignificant in the first place when compared to wheels & tires.
The billet piece is 3 lbs. 4 oz.
The factory part is 2 lbs. 2 oz.

rear diff
Such a shame. It seems that the rear diff could have been left as the JDM version without crossing any regulatory lines. I suppose it's because it was cheaper and the general US market is seen as ignorant that Mitsu decided to do this. Ugggh.
I have a second rear diff I'm going to send TRE to do prep just as a spare for me and my buddies. He has finished MAXLOCK's waiting to ship out. Looks like if you are in a hurry he can ship you a finished unit and then you send back your OEM unit when you take it out of the car.
How's that for service!
Have any of you played around with using regular diff fluid and then switching to something like Redline NS 80/140?? It makes a HUGE difference in lock up and performance. If you run the NS fluid you can customize your diff performace by adding in small amounts of LSD additive to "soften" it up. . .

Yep
You can really fine tune the rear diff characterstics with the fluid. I personally love using the redline NS, but it can really make the diff chatter like its gonna fall apart, haha.
I have a 2005 evo 8, with minor suspension mods. I have Robispec springs on oem kyb's, Gruppe-S race flash, TRE rear diff 1.5 way, 18x9 enkei RCT4 w/255/35 Star Specs. Power wise im at ~270ish at the wheels.
I have driven with this setup now for a bit and I would probably say that I honestly am close to maxing out my times with the stock struts and Robis. After I get a new clutch put in Ill probably be researching some coilovers.
Hard to say if the TRE rear diff will make a similar difference to a very modded evo as opposed to a mild one. Out of all my mods though, the rear diff has been the best at making my car rotate easier though, fwiw.
GEARS ''jon''
what up bud. i bought your TRE rear with HD side cover. not sure if you remember me. ''mergenthaler'' this weekend i blew a driver side rear axle at the drag strip. i got the axle out and had to drop the rear to pop out the rest of it as it was still inside the rear. i noticed the inside of the HD cover is chewed up now. is this a big problem? should i send the rear back to you for a look? also i am wondering what should i do being there was lots of little metal chunks in there and i am sure some got into the fluid. i dont know for a fact but im guessing it most likely happened. how do i flush this thing out or should i just send it back for a look.
