my diff was sent to him to get the side cover installed and the diff shimmed etc - FYI, the cusco he designed the diff for turned out NOT to be the cusco I have - he said mine seems to be a newer design, here is the website for anyone w the cusco to check - http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_prod...rs_typemz.html - the type-RS

Great point. For example - from the factory the OEM transfercase ring and pinion are set up a bit loose becasue the factory figures that the average person is not going to spend the time properly breaking in their drivetrain. This can put the load/contact patch on the outer edge of the ring gear teeth rather than right in the heart of it where it is strongest. . .

Great info. Makes me less worried about future t-case troubles now that I have one fresh from dogbox.

well i drove the car today for the 1st time with the new TRE rear.

i also changed a lot of suspension parts. the car will get a realingment but i am pretty sure i got it where it was before i took it apart. here is the weird thing. it feels like the car has rear wheel steering. does the TRE rear give that type of feel?

^ I'd reserve judgment on that until your alignment. Messed up rear toe can have that effect.

Yep, toe out produces this feeling. Measure to see how many 16ths of an inch you are pointing.

Funny thing is I didn't touch any toe settings. Just coilovers sway bar and lower control arms.

Do you know how the evo toes as you change things like ride height (from coilovers)?

Has anyone tried the STU legal diff refreshes? Any benefit over the stock setup?

the refresh from my understanding IS the stock set up, just reshimmed or whatever to get it back up to factory spec/new - but considering that the stock rear diff is pretty ineffective from the get go i don't think there will be much benefit to be had. i could be wrong though

The stock diff has the plates stacked wrong from the factory. The STU legal diff restacks them like the service manual says along with all the other touch up stuff that gets done to the max lock.

gotcha, sorry for the misinformation - i wasn't aware he actually restacked them when he did the stu rebuild - should make a considerable difference then.. didn't see it on the website but im sure he still does it. still can't comment on how much of a difference it makes though
