Is there any reason the Weir kit is not included in the original list of options on this thread? I searched the thread and it's only mentioned once in the entire thing.

But for someone who doesn't drag race their car and is only looking at perhaps AX and/or Track Days some day in the future the Weir kit looks like a nice compromise.

I've searched a lot and have yet to see anyone post what this job did/might cost at a professional (ASE-certified?) shop. I don't think I want to try this myself on the street in front of my house.

I installed the Weir kit myself. My Evo is a track toy mostly anymore. Best $180 I've spent on the car. Flat sweepers are no longer understeer nightmares. Throttle oversteer on demand. The car will rotate under throttle, something it would never do before.

I have not used the "NS" oil in my EVO, but others here have. I used it in my M3 and it did increase lock and noise. Hope that helps.
I am running the Redline 75-90 NS in my rear diff with the Weir 12-plate pack upgrade. Is it noisy? Very. Does it work? Absolutely. My Evo is nearly a dedicated track toy. I don't care about noise.

thanks for the info. another happy weir customer. I have yet to find an unhappy one.

I really don't think I'm up to doing it myself.

You'd be surprised at how easy the rear diff is to work on. Only difficult parts I had was trying not to strip the screws on install and putting the diff back in the housing. If you have basic mechanic skills, this is an easy task.

Sorry I just haven't gotten around to updating the thread: I also couldn't find whether the plates are 1 way or 1.5 way, and until then I'm holding off on adding the information, just in case.

Awesome Kyoo. Thanks for the update.

I just got off the phone with Spence.

He said the Evo 9 OEM rear diff is a 1 way diff and the Weir performance MAXGRIP LSD Kit does not change that. He said that in order to change that you would have to change the pressure rings in the diff also.

Question answered from the horses mouth.

I called the dealer and they wanted more than $1000 to do this. I used the information from this site and was able to complete the job. It does take a while to do.

Excellent info. Thank you very much. So figure $500, minimum, more or less for a non dealer to do it.

Makes the TRE 1.5 option sound more and more like what I want.

Had my diff. plates reconfigured and the siteglass mod done at my local shop FFTECH. What a difference!!! I can get the rear end spinning by twitching the steering wheel under full boost!! Almost feels like a high horsepower rear wheel drive car!! Got to find some nice clean parking lots now, to see if I can get her to drift a little!!! One the best mods for sure to date!!!

BTW, I think my shop quoted me about 1050 to do the rebuild. So it's gonna be TRE 1.5 way for me.

Just picked up my car from FFTEC as well with the Shep diff. I just did the basic break in, going to replace fluid, then it's time to really see what it can do.

Nice! I plan on taking my car to FFTECH for this same mod. Did you notice any chattering coming from the diff?
