I'm currently waiting on Weir to restock on rear plate kits and researching front LSDs. How does everyone feel about the wave trac matched with rear plate kit VS. Ra/rs lsd unit with rear plate kit?

Just had a local shop install the TRE diff this morning. Drove around for a good bit today, but haven't really noticed any extra noise, which is strange as it seems everyone is saying the chattering is loud. Perhaps, the Diaqueen oil is like magic?

Also, haven't really notice any changes in the way the car drives yet, but I guess I can only tell once the autox season starts.

Sidebar:
The shop that did the install made some negative comments about TRE and Shep, saying that their work are no good because they have seen cars with their diff/transmission coming in for repair and the craftsmanship look terrible. He literally said that TRE and Shep are all about taking people's money.

I thought this was interesting as people that I personally know who have used the TRE diff all said it is amazing. This local shop also has a good reputation within the Evo/GTR community. Not sure what to make of it, but certainly didn't expect that.

From my experience with the Shep 12 plate, if you're not making the diff do anything, then the only time you'll hear it make noise is at slow speeds when it's at least near full lock on the steering wheel.

this is and isn't unusual. i think a lot of the trans shops have some trash to talk about one another, but TRE is top of the line IMO.

If you are driving the speed limit and non-recklessly, then you arent going to realize the full potential of these mods, same goes for the acd flash. Both my TRE max lock and acd race flash were barely noticeable for me on the streets daily driving. You would have to be pushing the car fairly unsafe and being irresponsible on public roads. It wasnt really until I took it out at the autox and road course where the before and after was night and day.

You need sensitivity training for your butt-dyno

My wife noticed the ACD flash after 5 minutes in the car without prompting and commented on the car feeling much better handlingwise ...

TRE diff I agree - you need to lay into it to really appreciate it

There is no correction factor in my butt dyno.

Mine has developed a sort of whine from what seems to be the pinion. When I put a stethoscope to it, it was definately inside the diff, and more to the drivers side, so that reinforced the possibility of pinion issues. I dont remember this being normal, so Im curious if his is making similar noises?. I havent driven the evo in 2 years while it was slowly getting built, so I am trying to remember what noises are normal and which are not again.

--Ive been in contact with Jon @ TRE and hes curious to check it out since it was his modded diff, abd he says hes never heard of one his diffs acting up like mine. Another reason I want to have him inspect it is that Jon supposedly never sold his max lock diffs to this shop in Norcal from which I purchased it from.

i assumed you meant the 'chunk chunk' noise. whine won't be fixed by new fluid.

I had a pretty bad pinion bearing whine in my IX diff.
I sent it to jon , he says he's starting to see more of this....not uncommon.

Asked for the full treatment. Jon turned it around quickly and was great to talk to.

More to be revealed in about 4 weeks.
