Benefits of cam gear on Evo IX

Was thinking of getting an adjustable cam gear. What type of gains could I expect?... And where would the gains be?... (powerband) Would it accentuate/multiply gains i already have?... Please explain.

I realize a tune would be needed along with it.... just wondering if it would be worth it or not.....

Evo IX Cosworth M2's stock turbo 25 psi boost

Thanks,Dave

The gains don't come from the gears its self they come from advancing or retarding the timing. In my opinion your better off spending the money elsewhere.

Yah I agree.. spend your money elsewhere. Cam gears are about as worthless as a turbo timer.

the intake cam gear cannot be changed however you can change the exhaust cam gear and testing has been done

you can manipulate where the power comes on

however the gains were not anything out of control

I will go with what they both said, the gains will only be if you are tuning for a specific area in the powerband for drag racing, etc. With the abilities of tuning via open source and the stock ECU, you are better off just leaving the gears alone and tuning the timing tables.

You are better off spending your money elsewhere.

These are the gains I experienced on my stock turbo setup with only adding an exhaust cam gear set to -2 degrees with adjusting the tune for the change.

On to the improvements in track results. I trapped a best of 125.0x mph before adding the cam gear while after with no other changes I trapped 125.97 mph. The ET dropped significantly as well. Before 10.93 to after 10.80 with identical 60ft's.
