IP is separate from hardware. Mercedes and Toyota are the only manufacturers right now to fully lock and encrypt their software. The reason is cost since they dont develop the code. Not that many people know what goes on behind the scenes but this is why Toyota just bought several million worth of Motec to avoid development costs on external coding and the wait time.

If I were to take someone's map, reuse it and call it my own, that violates IP if it has been registered as such. If took something that was posted online, use it, but make sure my clients know it wasnt mine originally (i.e Tephra, my SD solutions) that is public use. If I did all of that and pretended it was mine that is a dirtball move.
Its also a dirtball move to assume stuff and not know what you're even talking about. What I have has NOTHING to do with what you think it is.

Just like what im about to release soon for the stock ECU has nothing to do with you. And will be a big time game changer.

Well to be fair, that was the first available aftermarket "tune" for us acd folks. It was great at the time as there was nothing else out there for a reasonable amount of change. Of course it is archaic by now, but it still does very well for road course folks. The race flash was not so great at autox setups, but I still won my class the first year I had that flash on my car regardless, so it cant be that rubbish. Now that there are all you folks offering "improved" setups, I am interested to see the improvements.

Honestly I wish more vendors would offer this, as competition usually promotes better products.

I assume none of your or your competitors tunes are exactly alike, so what is the argument about?

I would need a whole new thread to properly answer that question.

No software encryption is uncrackable. If Mitsubishi or any car company has figured out something that us in front line commercial software have struggled with for 30+ years, we'll buy the entire company. It would be worth that much.

In a wide open system with no looking over others shoulders its possible to come to the same or close enough source code that when analyzed you'd conclude a copy when not. Given the relatively closed systems these mods have to exist in it would be pretty hard to deterministically prove anything. Alright back to the sidelines.

Nothing is uncrackable I agree, but some encryptions require more then a humans life time to break & a lot of processing power.

I see what you're saying in regards to automotive stuff though. That kind of technology really never sees automotive ECU's and so forth. Especially with a ECU that can allow flashing and reading/writing. There is no need for it, because nothing is as that important to protect really.

I now have the original 6 map ACD stuff and will commence testing that in the next week. I should have that "approved" in 2 weeks and ready to roll out.

I am going to go the same route on the ACD stuff. To have people send it in, since its a hassle to have the customer make custom cable stuff to flash it, and most people don't want to do that.

Turn around time will be 24hrs. Just PM me for pricing. First couple of people will get it extremely cheap. As long as shipping is covered, I will also allow custom mapping based on customer feedback at no extra charge.

I'll make another thread outside of this thread, since this isn't really a for sale thread.

Those who have dealt with me in the past, know I am very competitive in pricing and don't mind taking less $ to help the end user out in most cases. This is also one of those cases.

Also plenty of cars to go around! So everyone will be able to get plenty of customers at the end of the day.

Or fab up an adapter harness that we could connect to. we would avoid the downtime and wait of sending one in, and give you something you can market and sell.

The problem with that is, it would still require the person to unplug one of the connectors on the ACD ECU and the ecu is a little difficult to get to. by the time you unplug it you can pull it out quickly.

I have a buddy who made me a bench cable i guess you can say? i can flash the ECU's in my house with it.

It wouldn't be to difficult to make a 2.0 cable with it setup so you could just unplug one of the harnesses from the ECU and flash it yourself, but then id have to worry about the cable not getting damaged and so forth getting shipped back and forth. It is something i wont just say no to yet though. ill think about that route. i know a lot of people like to do stuff themselves, so is not a bad idea.

I also don't mind teaching people how to tune the ACD system either if we do go this route, i can provide enough data to give the owner the ability to self tweak his ACD system to his or her personal preference.

Definately. Another benefit to this is, with a cable you could be able to remotely tune the acd on the fly, no? If that is the case then if Im at the track and need to adjust or fine tune the acd tune, you can sell this service. This would make 6 maps not necessary. If you could set this up, then one would really only need 2 maybe 3 maps at the most, and then we wouldnt be needing to have this discussion about whose proprietary 6 maps are being used.

Sometimes track conditions can change, colder weather, heavy rain fall, hotter than expected. This can all change your setup. It would be badass if I could email you my logs and/or what Im experiencing, have you email me a revision, and I fine tune right then and there.

IMHO, 6 maps seems a bit excessive.

6 maps might seem excessive for someone who's car never sees inclement weather, but for one that sees snow, rain, and track conditions, I could see 6 maps being useful.

if you like tracking your car , 6 maps might be just the trick... 3 maps for the road and 3 fine tuned ones for the track.. I use 3 maps for the road... normal tarmac one for easy oversteer, a safe snow map and a special snow map for hooning around in the winter... If I still tracked my car I could see using 3 more, if anything, just to test different concepts without connecting it to a PC all the time.

BTW, race ACD controllers usually have 6 maps. IIRC..

I guess I can see if you autox, road course, and street drive the evo then 6 maps may come in handy. In my situation, its a track only car and the weather in Southern California is always sunny and mild. It rained for like 5 minutes a few months ago, thats about as incliment as it gets out here. lol

Most people will find the 3 maps are plenty. It is like a boost controller, once you get spoiled by high boost you will rarely ever turn it down.

English Racing ACD Tune

Finally getting around to posting my review - disclaimer: I did receive a discount with my ER ACD tune, as I have with all my ACD tunes save for my original Gruppe-S tune.

I can happily say that this is so far the most effective ACD tune I've used, and I've tried many. My tune was the 3 mode tune, not their newer 6 map tune. For me, the evo spends about 4-6 months a year with the battery on a trickle sitting in the garage, so I don't know that I would need more maps. For anyone driving their car year round, probably a 6 map version with the factory Snow would be the way to go.

My maps were Tarmac:Autox, Gravel:Track, Snow:Street. I tested these while autoxing my car, though I haven't autoxed my Evo regularly for a while (been driving the Mini). I could go through the play by play, but I'd rather list my general experience. My setup is: Ohlins 8k/10k, some bushings, stock sway bars, and Cusco 1.5 Type RS that's very aggressive. Corner balanced and mild alignment specs. Power is around 300-320hp, and I'm on street tires (Dunlop Z1SS).

I believe the Snow:Street map is something similar to stock Tarmac, just for normal driving around town. Each level up in setting has an immediate and significant change in turn-in and throttle lift tuck. I'm actually surprised how much difference it makes. It definitely blows away the other ACD tunes I've had, all of which had this odd binding/restrictive feeling on turn-in - the opposite of what I was looking for. Those tunes probably just had too much lock up overall.

The ER tune basically does exactly what I was hoping for it to do. Corner entry IMO was the biggest weakness of the car, at least with my setup, and this tune makes a huge difference. It will still plow if you try to enter a tight corner without braking, but that's just physics. I actually fishtailed in Tarmac:Autox trying to go through a slalom one time, which is enough oversteer for me lol.

In general, the car understeers less, enters corners better, and performs better in sweepers. On throttle, I can't say that I noticed much difference. The Cusco is already aggressive enough to 180 if I keep the throttle down. I believe ER has different ACD settings depending on your car's set up and I believe they scaled that down for me.

The only issue I've had come up is that the 3lights will turn on every once in a while when I'm sitting idling, which go away if I restart the car. No impact on driving or while I'm moving, and hasn't been a factor for me.

I'm the OP of this thread, and IMO ER's tune best accomplishes the original goal of what I was looking for when I started exploring ACD tuning. Basically I was looking for something with my 9 that matched the super-awc of the Evo X; I posited that a good ACD tune + an aggressive rear differential would match it - and I believe this combination has reached that goal for me. I recommend ER's tune to anyone who's interested in trying an ACD tune.
