K&N or HKS drop in filters?

I found an HKS one for 40 bucks, thought I might give it a try...is it comparable to the K&N?

I would go with the HKS. It's only $40 compare to $70 for K&N.

http://performance.speedycarparts.com/ has a good price on them. Part # 32-2105. They also have free shipping

I would get the K&N personally. From all the info I've gathered most of the High-flow air filters allow fairly large particles through.
K&N is a little more restrictive, but blocks particles much smaller

I mean obviously the most power would be gained from just running wide open with no filter, but I don't know how long the engine will last sucking in dirt...

It ain't the engine that you need to consider evopower freak it's your tubo that will bit it if particulate matter of any significant mass hits vanes spinning at high velocity. Even water vapor will cause damage in a short time. The k&N supposedly makes about 5 hp according to one of the tuners on this site. Another tuner reports other findings on mods to the stock set up

Yeah that's actually what I meant. I'm pretty sure the HKS on My MKIV Supra TT not filtering very well is what caused turbo 1 to go out...

HKS = More power than K&N, but less filtration... If it did let extra dirt in and destroyed your turbo that would be a good excuse to get an upgraded Turbo

personally i'd go with the k&n. they have proven power and will last a long time. plus they warranty their product for... what is it, a million miles or something like that.
