93 Evo engine problems! Please help!
93 Evo engine problems! Please help!
Ok so I bought a 93 Evo in May and it drove fine for a couple months then a ticking started under the hood but no performance issues. Then in October it started running terrible. At idle it runs really rough. When i give it gas in the lower rpm range it bogs down and the engine shakes a lot the around 4k it smooths out. There is also an warning light on the dash that comes on that looks like a box with pipes coming out of its sides with wavy lines above it. The gas consumption has also doubled. The ticking does get quieter when it has warmed up for a while although I recently switched over to the 3g talon lifters as I have been told they are supposed to be almost tick free but mine actually got louder. Any ideas on how to fix the issue would be great.

That is bad lifter tick. If the noise is loud enough to be heard in the cabin with the windows up then is is loud enough to be heard by the knock sensor and the ECU will pull all the timing. In other words, the engine will dog.
Since you have already installed new lifters, I am not sure what to recommend.

Yeah, 5W-30 is too light but it shouldn't cause a lifter problem.
I had a 4G63 turbo in a 1992 Plymouth Laser (it was a 6 - 4 combo car) and at about 80K I had to replace the lifters. The replacement parts, whatever the dealer ordered, did it for me. I remember when I installed them and started the engine. It sounded like yours sounds now. However, with a little running, all was quiet again.
Before I changed the lifters I hardly had power enough to pull away from a stop sign. No sooner had I had the engine back together but what I needed was valve seals. I pulled the cams both times.
