5 speed vs 6 speed clutch
What is the difference in the clutch kits between the 5 speed and the MR 6 speed for the VII-IX?
Is it just the pressure plate, just the disc, or are they both different?

Evo VII has a different pressure plate (different geometry) from the VIII and IX but has the same disc as the XIII. The release bearing is the same for XII through IX. All XIII and IX clutches will fit and function the same and pressure plates, release bearing, flywheel, friction material, are all the same. From what I have seen the only difference is the dampening in the disc. The MR (maybe others) had a wide angle damper design which potentially reduces gear rattle noises. The EVO X on the other hand, is different from the earlier EVO.

I noticed that ACT has the same kit for both the 5 speed and 6 speed but Fidanza doesn't.
Basically what I have is a brand new 6 speed OEM disc and pressure plate that came on the brand new crate motor I just bought from Lancer Shop. I'm trying to bolt up a 5 speed and really want to use the new disc and pressure plate. These crate motors are sold in a 5 speed and 6 speed format. They said that the only difference was the clutch.
